Why I may have to bow out of BLFC
I put two and two together today after getting some news from my spouse and realized to my horror that I may have to put my plans to attend Biggest Little FurCon in the dumpster this year. The reasons for this may be the most bizarre thing I could ever possible imagine.
In short, this is the reason:
http://nationalangorarabbitbreeders.....tionalshow.htm
My "mother-in-law" is a rabbit breeder, specifically a breeder of Copper Satins. She lives near Los Angeles and very rarely travels outside of the southland for shows any more. This time, she's considering making this trip. She may travel up with my "father-in-law" or she may hitch a ride with a fellow breeder from Lake Elsinore. If she decides to go to this show, I'll have to skip it.
It's not just that I don't want to out myself as a furry to my in-laws, although they are probably the people I'd least like to reveal that fact to. The big problem is they would most likely request their daughter to meet them up at the show to help out. If she goes, someone will have to stay at home to take care of our animals here. That someone would obviously be me. If for some reason I went to the con and Tina stayed behind, it would not only be awkward when I inevitably bump into them, but also it would be hard to explain why I made the trip to act like a fool and party like a college student while their daughter had to stay behind. Not a position I'd like to put myself in.
I don't see any way to work around this problem. I can't Duncan the Dog or Yappy Fox my way through the con by staying in suit throughout the entire event in an effort to avoid them. That'd be silly and I'd miss out on a lot of what will make this con very special. Bottom line, if they go I stay.
Hopefully I'll know more as the con gets closer. Strange things happen and certainly nothing I can think of is stranger than these circumstances!

I'm also not Rollin Hand (Martin Landau's character from Mission: Impossible), so any prosthetics I apply will fall apart instantly. ;)
Furry -- just when you think you've seen it all, wait another second or two!
A RABBIT SHOW?
This would be very funny if it didn't preclude you from coming.
I hope that you are somehow able to attend and the bunnies are none the wiser.
Not much I can really do at this point but wait and see if she decides to go. If she stays home, I'll be booking out there as quickly as possible.
I'm still going to actively promote this con regardless. I think it has the potential to become a very desirable place for furs across the country and even the world to come to. I'm sad that I might have to miss it this time, but you can't get everything you want in life all the time, so I'll just have to deal with it.
Families are weird. I try not to get close to them at all. Including my own. I'm half joking, heh.
Dude, seriously odd. Tony told me about this while we were eating dinner. :o
Part of me wants to just encourage you to go (can you tell me the worst that'd happen as a result?) but I won't push. So, I hope they don't go so you can. : )
The concern is they'll want to spend time with their daughter, since they'll be so close. We both can't travel there due to pet issues. Also, someone will need to stay behind to get things in order for our big trip a few weeks afterwards.
I am kicking what limited computational resources I have into high gear trying to think of a solution that will make everyone happy. She hasn't decided yet if she'll be going and Tina said she'd let them know they'll be sharing their con space with us. That may sway her against going.
If you take my office into account, this is actually a closer con to me than FC. I really was looking forward to seeing it get off to a great start. Even now, I'll still be pimping this one out to anyone that'll listen. It's got great potential. :)
