Mystic Mastery
(Some details may be incorrect, but the gist of the story remains true)
The Mystic is an overconfident magical master who has come to the village for a personal challenge. She takes the identity of a fallen villager and tries to win as that near-random role. Not to boast, but this is the perfect role for me. And in this game, I take it to an advanced level that really threw people for a loop.
It was a regular game, fairly normal roles involved, with the inclusion of the Mystic. As the Mystic, the real challenge is to be something special rather than become just a Villager. To do this, the Mystic must watch the overall flow of the game and to use their power when they think something bad is going to happen. Or alternatively, ensure that something bad happens on the turn that your power has been used. The latter is the general route the Mystic should take, but is the riskier in the long term because you could potentially make yourself a target. The former is much more difficult to predict for most people but I prove in this game that it is entirely possible.
ID phase: Hell no, I'm not copying this early. Get real. :P
Day phase 1: See? We lynched a Villager. A silly Villager but a Villager. People are now starting to get information. I'm sitting there being passive.
Night phase 1: Naw, not quite yet, even if people get information they won't share it this early. Thumbs down!
Day phase 2: A Villager falls, but enough people have been talked to. Suspicion started brewing. Stuff's hitting the fan soon, and if not, people aren't paying enough attention. I sit there still being passive, but keeping a cautious ear tuned to the discussions.
Night phase 2: Yup. Let's cause some havoc. Thumbs UP!
Day phase 3: I may have used my ability, but I'm still only loosely focused. Everyone's still low-key, cautious, nothing's exploding yet. No bloodthirstiness. Then the next thing I notice is someone's claiming Bodyguard. Ooooh, this is going to get good, I think! And then... "He's not the Bodyguard, he's a Werewolf. I'm the Seer!" :O
My attention level skyrockets. This is getting good. SO MANY CHOICES, but which one to go with?? :D I can have my pick of the bunch. Which do I choose?
Seer: "Oh, and I've cleared Tobias. He's not a Werewolf."
......... ......... :DDDDDDD Did I just get cleared by the Seer? Really? REALLY? SCREW YOU VILLAGE, I'M GONNA BE THE INVINCIBLE WEREWOLF! But how to go about it? I need to make sure that this "Seer" is the Seer and not the real Werewolf bullshitting with the "Bodyguard". If this really IS the Seer, then I get the Werewolf lynched. If he's not, I can't be invincible and instead just want someone dead that's something special. No loss, right?
Me: "I've got an easy way to solve this and we can get rid of one Werewolf right here and now. Bodyguard, come forward, call this guy a liar, and we eliminate a Werewolf, and confirm the Seer and Bodyguard outright." - If a Bodyguard comes forward, then not only do I get the Werewolf lynched, but I also can eliminate BOTH of the important special roles!!!!
Bodyguard: "Err, yeah, I'm the Bodyguard, he's lying." - Hesitant but truthful. Awesome.
Me: "There you go. Kill the original."
Village: *Lynches a Werewolf* ... :3 :3 :3 :3
Village goes to sleep. Werewolves wake up. HI BUDDY, YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE ALONE NOW, DIDN'T'CHA?! Well shut up and listen to me. We're killing the Bodyguard because he's going to pick the Seer. Every investigation helps and he can't risk pointing to himself, and isn't brave enough to try a double bluff. Werewolves sleep, other roles do stuff.
Village wakes up, "No one died last night" says the GM. ... Bullshit, you messed up, double check the protection. I promise. I talk the GM into rechecking and sure enough, the GM did make a mistake. I basically said "I am pretty sure the Bodyguard's supposed to be dying right now, mind double checking because it wasn't clear who got pointed to. We wanted to kill the Bodyguard, not the Seer. Nooooot the Seer." - There had been some confusion due to the birth of a new Werewolf, essentially. Not that I was too worried about the delay in killing, but I would prefer the village to not find the other Werewolf and start re-suspecting me when the game doesn't effing end. XD So, error corrected, dead Bodyguard.
Village lynches one of the 'remaining suspicious people', missing the Werewolf. Village sleeps, we kill the Seer, 3 suspicious people left. They kill the wrong one. One more night phase, village wakes up, and we suddenly realize, oh hey, the game's over and we won. 4 people alive, two wolves. Those still alive are completely stunned, saying they somewhat suspected me of being the Mystic but didn't think I would have gotten that lucky to get the only non-Villager lynched role. I replied: "Wasn't a matter of luck at all. You have to read the flow of the game. I chose that turn on purpose." Statistically it's the best turn for lynching something special in a game of that size, plus enough suspicious characters had appeared that I could tell something was on the verge of happening. I simply knew what I was doing and while I had my choice of roles, I pressed to be the Werewolf simply because the Seer had told the village that I was not a Werewolf. C'mooooon, how can I possibly resist a perfect set-up like that?!?! :D
