Hard Choice about cons.... Where I will and will not be.

MFM this year was a turning point for me yet again. Last year I met Raven which let me to the happiest year in the fandom ever. Here's to more years exactly like that. But just like the song goes. Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end. And this new beginning I got with Raven and the rest of the cubs help I made a few ends. And all good ones.
So here goes.
I may not attend Anthrocon ever again. Here's why even though I was a Supersponsor for four years running and 6 years total:
At AC this past year I cannot count how many times I tried to take a headless lounge break to finding no water in there. ZERO ... NONE ... The flimsy head drier was falling apart most of the time and for several HUNDRED fursuiters this is UNACCEPTABLE.
Then I found out why... At Closing Ceremonies it was pointed out that there was not enough water and Kage's explanation was that it saved him money since they all had to be filled. Great so put fursuiters health at risk to save a few bucks so the airline tickets for Kage and his parents don't come out of pocket.
Yaknow it was not until this year attending Further Confusion and seeing the display of fun they put on with the drummers and the wonderful lounge, the food the drinks and the panels and ... Well DAMN ... You know it's ALOT more expensive for thigns out in California than Pittsburg PA so ... Yeah where is all that money going that is dodated to the con? FC gets the same big names out there and still puts on a longer convention and a wilder ride than AC and ... For a HELL of alot less ... So what does Anthrocon have that FC doesn't?
Shopping ... Okay yeah it's in a convention center with more floorspace so if you want to buy shit you have plenty of space to do that and ... Well Furries love their naked fuzzybutts. Only issue is that with that little luxury comes the half a mile walk to and from the dealer den. So we are back again to the fursuiting thing and not getting the water.
This all came to fruition when I attended MFM this year. No intervention no anything wrong. Just made it to RCFM earlier in the year and MFM this past weekend and I remember hearing a few things. Here are some of the comments made without giving out names about THOSE cons:
Sorry it's a bit warm we are trying to get the vents fixed now so we can get the hotel cool for the fursuiters. They should be here any minute (They were)
WOW there are alot of fans in here.
We had to get a couple more. We thought there might be more suits this year.
We rented out a special room for the headless lounge this year for everyone.
Can you turn the AC down? It's too cold.
WOW there's alot of food in the con suite! How do you afford it?
I love this con. Everything is right close together so I met alll my friends here.
(spoken to staff) Excuse me but where is event-x?
Not sure hold on a sec (picks up two way) Hey who is holding event-x? (Yes Security got on the two way line just to tell someone where an event was)
If you like this con you'll like this one too (Spoken at BOTH RCFM and at MFM by staff)
This feels more like a party than a convention.

Looking over what I just wrote ... Not a SINGLE one of those comments can be attributed to AC.
If you are a fursuiter like I am ... STAY AWAY FROM ANTHROCON or just don't bring your suit. This is for your own health. I'll change my mind if Kage starts giving a shit about the attendees of his con. If not. Yeah see you all at FC, RCFM, MFM and OC ... OH! AND FURRY FIESTA!

It was GREAT to see you again this year, and it was a pleasure to see you playing with the Kids displaced from the Storm.

Man, this is going to be the first year in decades that I haven't been to a single convention.
years. In 2003 I had a massive heart attack and didn't go to any cons that year, then
they moved AC to Pittsburgh which was a little too far to push my aging Buick, but
not quite far enough to justify flying so I stuck to the smaller local cons. Now that I
have a more reliable set of wheels and I'm in somewhat better health, thanks to the
surgeons at Booth Memorial hospital, I was thinking about AC again. However from
your story and others I've heard about AC, it's not the con I went to when it was held
at the Adam's Mark. It's become more commercialized and less fan friendly. Considering
that my health is precarious at best (one of the things you have to live with and around
as you get older), I think I'll stick to my small local cons, though perhaps something
in the south might be fun.

It's up and coming and closer to you than AC was and .... OH! It's less than two months away.
If Kage said no water nor fans at AC, then forget fursuiting. I didn't Supersponsor if the fursuiters can't get cooled off.
Still planning on going to Oklacon? That's OC, ya?
We're not going. Too much of a chance of having to go hungry.
NO CON IS WORTH STARVING.
An outdoor con is NOT really a place for fursuits at all. And I was happy that this past year they did a bit more for suiters.
I am HOPING to be able to make it to Wild Nights but as it stands I am getting REALLY stretched on the cons I attend already. I know I would not bring either of mine to WN cause I don't know what to expect from the con. I can say one thing. If this is taking place in April ... I am not suiting in the heat. No thanks. :p The AC Walk'o'death was bad enough.
As far as Wild Nights is concerned, we don't have anything specific set up for suiters right now, but if you don't want to bring your suit that's fine.
But please, PLEASE come to Wild Nights. If you have any questions about it, let me know!
