What 'makes' a Furry?
as a comment made by someone at random the other day, I Pose to you know as an open call for opinions, concerns, comments, ideas, etc...
"What Makes a Fur?"
(ie: what criteria does a 'human' have to have before they can be concidered a "Fur/Furry".)
(IE: Do they have to be fluent in the particular dialect of leetspeak associated with fur? or perhaps just enjoy Anthro-Art, and Anthro-behaviour (outside of the bdsm/fetish 'pet/anthro' behaviours) ? Do they have to have a Fursuit? or tail? etc....)
Run the Gambit people, let me know what you think. Don't be shy. Don't hold back. I wanna know what YOU Think and feel about this subject.
Cuase, well i need to reset my brain on a few subjects, and this is one of them. I'ma all gonna enjoy anthro art, anthro sex and suits,... but if i'm not 'fitting in' no use for me to try and fit in. Save my energies for more productive endeavours... should i even have those after the next 6months. :">

Difficult question really. I've meet every manner of person on here.
I suppose that all we are is a community of people who like to have fun, and are generally nice to one another. Also, we just happen to have a general love of fluffy things.
Anyone can call them self a furry if they wanted. Whose gonna tell them they are wrong? There aren't any requirements then, except that you identify yourself as a member of our group.
Not that our group is all like minded. If you look around, you will see people who like cuteness, some like it rough, there are some weird fetishes on here, and there are furs who just like the cute PG-13 things on here. Some just look at the photographs on here, or listen to music, while others like to read.
Since that isn't within everyones grasp, I suggest the alternative. Comment on peoples artwork. It is pretty much a given that the artist will like comments better than favs. Also, it lets you talk with new people, and you may stumble across someone who will become your good friend.
But, based on my own observations that is simply not the case. "Furry" is more about the sexual subculture than anything else. It permeates every single pore of the fandom.
As far as to what someone has to do to be considered one, I think all they have to do is consider themselves one. It's an opt-in social group.
As far as fitting in, there are many "cliques" within furries at large, you just have to find what you like and what works for you and stick with it. I think the key is, if you're gaining from it more than you're losing from it then you're off to a good start.
Personally, I don't consider myself a furry.
P.S. Thanks for faving my work. You get a watch from me.
From the people I have met here, i can tell furries have an affinity or attraccion for fluffy things. others feel identified with certain animal, like and avatar, for others there is a philosophy ( like animalists )
I don't think i can fit with that type because i don't feel special attraction for any animal. i'm not much of an animal person either.
the lion avatar was more for I felt like obligued to, as a way to interact (ie: to talk about me) with this community in the art forms, but I find the fursona thing quite silly.
for me art and sexyness are the main motivations i'm here.
