The reviews have been horrible. Plus I refuse to read/watch a work if it is blatantly obvious that it is a Mary Sue. You can't say that "Melanie Stryder" sounds like "Stephanie Meyer".

Yep, the reviews are horrible. I'm glad though that I refuse to pay attention to reviews [there have been many films I liked that reviewers hated and even more that I hated that they liked.]

Isn't a mary sue a character that is clearly a ripoff of a well known one? I don't that that being the case for the characters in this film and having having a character with a name vaguely approaching your own isn't the same thing.

I'll be honest, had I known this was her work going into it I'd never have watched it after the trainwrecks of the Twilight franchise. Had I done that though I'd have missed out on a very interesting film with a very powerful ending.

A Mary Sue is a character that is an obvious "self-insertion" (idealized, of course) of an author into a work, usually a fan-fiction.

Fair enough, gotta say though that if she did base the character off herself then it was a good idea because Melanie's personality within the head of Wanderer was great.

I have been kind of against seeing it, because honestly it looks like the same thing as twilight to me. Only the normal character is the guy instead of the girl, and it's aliens instead of vampires. . .

It honestly couldn't be further from that pile of crap.

While there is a love story side to it and two suiters yet again, they both have actual personalities and are technically attracted to two different people [one to Melany the host, human and original owner of the body. The other to Wanderer/Wanda, the alien who's taken over the body.]

Mostly though it's about protecting the people you love and self-sacrifice.
