*phone rings*
"Hello?"
"Hi, Mom! Guess who I just met?"
"Who?"
"Ray Harryhausen."
(impressed) "~Really~?"
(She recognized the name; she'd been hearing it my entire childhood.)
"Yup! I caught him on tour. He's promoting a DVD release of some of his older short films. I heard him lecture tonight, and afterward went up and talked to him for a while."
"Wow!"
"He's still here. Would you like to meet him? I could put him on the phone."
"Um... no. No, I don't think that would be very appropriate."
"I don't think he'd mind. He's really friendly. You know how everyone describes that he's like hanging out with your grandpa? That's what he's like. I just stepped out to call you and let you know, but he's still in there talking to a few people. Seriously, I could put him on the line with you, just for a moment."
"I really don't think that would be polite. It was more important for you to meet him anyway."
"You're sure? He's right there!"
"Yes, I'll be fine."
"...Okay."

Sorry, Mom, but you blew your chance to talk to Ray Harryhausen.

I've only ever seen the Clash of the Titans, but I remember my dad telling me how all the old Sinbad movies and such were the blockbuster movies that all the kids wanted to see when he was growing up.
And that's a great story!
Was quite sorry to hear of his passing... he certainly left a charming, monstrous, home-crafted stamp on my childhood.
But hey, at least you tried though. *hug*
