General
I know skyrim is old as of now, but I got it about a week ago, and here are my thoughts, after having beaten the main storyline.
First thoughts, it's short.
I have 20 hours on my save game, as a kittyjeet and I spent half that time on the Thieves guild quests.... That leaves the main storyline, going through ALL the important character dialogue options related to the story. The story was held my interest though. I finally learned what a fucking Elder Scroll is, and all of that...
SPOILER ALERT:
Skyrim is the story of you (Whatever character you choose) heading off (lol) to the chopping block for some crime. They never say what it is (There must be some horrible crime you can't commit in game in the ES series that you are constantly doing...) I pretended that (being female) started a horse harem, for profit.
As luck would have it a dragon sets a bunch of people on fire and I escape.
We head to a town, kill a dragon, and then as he dies, spoos all over me... making me MORE POWERFUL!! Seems the dragon porn can absorb the dragons massive loads, killing them..
Seems the dragons are back, after having been wiped out centuries ago. With the power of an ElderScroll, the Master Dragon was sent forward in time because the old nords were to weak to deal with it. Thus putting the burden on me to take it on.
They have an interesting take on dragons. Their power is derived from their speech, which is extremely powerful. Having dragon cum in your body, you can also speak their language in the form of 'shouts'. You learn these shouts and eventually defeat the Master Dragon in a spectacle that rivals a trailer park fight on saturday night. Lots of shouting and shit on fire.
The main story, while engaging, is painfully short. I know there is no lack of things to do in Skyrim, but I did expect more from Bethesda...
Most of the side quests follow a singular dialogue:
Do something for me,
Go to do it,
go somewhere else to get the first part done by having to do something else for someone else.
The combat is great. None of that Morrowind bullshit fight a rat for 10 minutes.... And with dual wield, magic/weapon combos, you won't get bored. Though the weapon selection is a bit sparse, swords, maces, and bows, with little variation between the bunch. It's up to you to add enchantments and bonuses to each through smithing.
Crafting is less confusing than the other games. You don't have to learn a spell, or use a scroll and ingredients to make something. You can pull things apart at a table and learn permanently their enchantment and then put it on another weapon with a soul gem. Get a soul capturing weapon and you are in game.
With a fallout style crafting system, go to the designated table/device and craft when you have the ingredients. Simple
Level up.
I was confused when I didn't get to add points to the traditional Intelligence, strength, ect. Each skill levels up when you use it, and once it reaches a level mark (10, 20, ect) you can spend a skill point to increase what that skill does. In addition to getting to increase your choice of health, magic and stamina each level. They kept it simple and easy to use.
Level design.
I have the 360 version, and I know the PC is MUCH better, but I don't have one that can run it. The world is beautiful none the less. Lots of terrain variety, weather and plants. Though the dungeons and interiors of buildings get repetitive a few hours in. It would be great if they had a randomizer for what goes into an open space... But when working on a large project like that, the interior design and placement is the last thing they care about.
Final thoughts:
It's a good game, just make sure you get alot of side questing done before you wrap up the main story. You can go back and play in Skyrim, as there are no credits, you may even miss the ending of the game main story XD You can easily dump 200 hours into Skyrim..
