Hello all you Doom players!
ben_roprim here with some tech help and advice for your Doom gaming needs!
Sweet semen of baby jesus! We online/solo doom gamers have been waiting a long time for something like this to be fixed!

WELL NOW THERE IS A LAUNCHER WITH THIS FIXED! 8D
There is a Launcher just like Zandronum called, "Internet Doom Explorer". Or how some people commonly call it, "IDE". Website here: http://doomutils.ucoz.com/
IDE is a very similar launcher just like Zandro. Except the way it launches games, it much more effective. It can load wads, pwads, and pk3 files from anywhere on your computer you specify. Meaning, all your games and wads dont have to be in the same folder, and it will still load and launch your servers without getting this "Use same wads as server" bug.
Because Zandro MUST load wads and pk3's from the Doomseeker folder AND your Zandro folder, for some reason it gets confused regardless of where they are being kept, even if they are in the correct folders! Its been a large mystery bug for the longest time since Skulltag. But now IDE has resolved the issue by redoing its loading order from custom folders, or even from your Doomseeker and Zandro Folders if you wish. I dont know how they did it, but they did!
Guy if your sick of having these issues and wanna play in peace with yourself or freinds, I HIGHLY recommend you download this launcher and give it a shot.

I rember when AEoD was choosing ZDoom over Skulltag back in the day because of lag of mod support features on Skulltags end. And that that zandronum is based on skulltag so its kinda not supporting on...
What they should had done is take zDoom and then support its development with this multiplayer features but NO everyone has to cook up there own soup and now you have everywhere inperfect sourceports.
But umm that shown error seems common to me. if you dont load the same wads (with the same wad version) then you most likely end up messy.
IDE is NOT a sourceport. Its a LAUNCHER! :)
Doomseeker, Zandronum, and IDE have a specific way of loading wads so that it grants stability for servers. The Servers or Solo/Private games that players make can bug like this at anytime. Even if you check and recheck your games so that your servers says that 100% is working by using -wads or other check commands, this "must use exact wads" can still come up. Its not a zdoom issue, or a load issue. Its just a bug that happens for unknown reasons.
But you cant have all in one bleeeeeeh x..x Image you could have Zandronum's multiplayer, with ZDooms mod abilitys combined with the enchanced graphic abilitys of Doomsday engine (they a few steps ahead of GZDoom and co)
Your still not getting it. Here is a clear explanation below.
Gzdoom/Zdoom = Source Port
Zandro/Skulltag = Launcher
Zandro never made their own sourceports, never have and never will. Zandro doesnt need zdoom or gzdoom because it cant. Why? BEcause it supports online gameplay, and wads/pk3's that have heavy scripted coding cannot manage it.
Yes, I get it reilsss. Zdoom and Gzdoom are great. Seriously, I get it. But online gameplay cannot support those sourceports. Gamers choose Zandro/IDE because it connects friends globally easier. IF, and I mean a huge IF; that zdoom and gzdoom COULD support online game play, that service would not likely be free and would require IDsoft to distribute that kind of technological software. Teams like Skulltag and Zandro dont have the power to implement zdoom into their servers. And probably never will.
point of fact, Skulltag/Zandronum? Forked from Zdoom way the frell back in the days of the 2.3 version.
they were fairly routinely "back-porting" newer coding features of G/Zdoom, basically whenever the community yelled at the developers loudly enough.
Zandronum simply inherited everything that was Skulltag, except the art assets and the game-mode of the same name.
At least, legally.
It'll run just fine if you add in those assets, Zandronum simply does not come bundled with them due to Legal reasons.
You are, however, quite correct in that Zdoom and (even later than Skulltag) it's fork GZdoom, are kinda shitty for net-gaming.
That's what you get from only "cleaning up" Doom II's original Net-gaming code.
Skulltag yanked out the peer-to-peer functionality, and replaced it with client-server.
Anyone who has the skills could, in theory, modify Zdoom/GZdoom to use client-server net-code. But no-one will, as Zandronum still lives.
