Doom 64 Heading to Switch
General
For the first time in 23(!) years, Doom 64 is finally receiving an official port, for the Nintendo Switch.
No specific details yet, aside from the announcement that it's coming. Let's hope it'll turn out better than the Doom/Doom 2 Switch ports (which are apparently getting patches to fix the audio, and to remove the Bethesda sign-in requirement, thankfully).
I'm looking forward to this fueling more "Doom 2016 is a Doom 64 sequel" fan theories, she said with sarcasm. XD

But it does makes me wonder, if they will be adding the missing levels and content that was originally to be in Doom64.
That alone would make me want to play it. If not, the unofficial for Zandro feels more fleshed out and complete.
(Surely beats playing the original rom on an emulator with that HORRIBAD CONTROLLER/CONTROL SCHEME >_> )
At first I was very skeptical of the game's quality and tone... But honestly it quickly grew on me!
For any Veteran Doom fans it's pretty much a must play, in my opinion.
And yes... For those interested, there is also This (Don't hate me, V... You know it was coming )

Regardless of how it's played, I'm just glad Doom 64 is finally starting to get recognition as a worthwhile entry in the Doom saga. Final Doom's gotten more official ports than it has and that's just unfair.
It's like the perfect blend of the dark\creepy style of Quake with Doom's "rip and tear" attitude...
And ya can't go wrong with neither!
(Plus if you're one of those who believe D64 is the prequel for the new saga... Then it's all the better, I say )
Since I am still here, I should link in a few more notable D64 themed things I found:
Doom 64: Retribution
https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-64-retribution
(I guess that many tried their hands at porting D64 to PC before EX and BD64 became super duper popular. No idea about the overall quality and fidelity of this one. Soo far as I have seen it comes with a boatload of new levels.. Interesting.. Probably will try it out myself soon enough).
Doom 64: Absolution
https://www.moddb.com/games/doom-ii.....-absolution-tc
(Another TC from before people had the options of EX or BD64. This one changes and switches around things a bunch.. Not exactly the most accurate of TC's, if I remember propely. But just like Retribution, it only requires you to use a Doom2.wad and an apropriate Open Port to make it work... Circumventing all of the stupidity of having to convert an original D64 rom just to make EX work, for example. Don't hate me for saying this again but BD64 still remains the best in my opinion >_>).
Doom 64 for Doom 2
https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-64-for-doom-ii
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f2vBW9GMZU ...Soo... This exists, and it's just as silly\cheesy as the trailer would imply. Still an incredible way to experience Doom64 in a more "classy" format... Fantastic if you just want a map-pack to play with gameplay mods [That do not alter the enemies]).
Innocence X & Innocence X2
https://www.doomworld.com/forum/top.....ow-on-idgames/
https://www.doomworld.com/forum/top.....omment-1664640
(Good shit all around... Not much elses to say here. If you want some of that D64 action with some of classic D2 sprinkled in, this is the right place for ya!).
I'd say it's also the best of the bunch as it did add tons of cut stuff from the original development (For better or worse).
Maybe Saturo can lay down and pour it on his abs and I can lick it up. <3
I also remember watching a commentary of Doom 64 played on a traditional N64 (using the "forbidden grip") by a pair of guys on Youtube, who said they didn't like the total conversions because of how difficult they were to emulate the actual game, so I'm wondering how they'll react to the official re-release of the game...
