Friend Stuff on 3DS Help?

Give a man a fire he's warm for the night... Okay going to show my nieve side again. But just recently I was able to FINALLY connect my new 3ds to the net. Now I am just trying to figure out the friend stuff I constantly see people giving out. Can someone with enough patience and such help me understand?

If you mean to get your friend code... if you havn't figured it out already. Go to the home screen, there is an icon that's a box with a smile in it. That's where you will get your code and add people.

Right and then what to do with that friend code? I found it last night.

Give it out, people can add you on their DS's but can only see you if you have their code as well. When you have them added and they have you added, you can go to that Screen (the box smilie) and it'll tell you if they're online and what game they're playing.. if any.

Does that happen even if you aren't in the same state, network, ect?

Yup, it's all through the internet. You cannot connect to the friend zone without the net
