Post AC Report: Day Three, Saturday
Okay, to be honest, I can't recall much of the events, or order of events on the first half of Saturday. Though, it was a rather lax day to begin with. Most of the panels I had an interest in were on Friday. Saturday had some panels, but they were spaced out and such.
I know I began the day sleeping in a bit. Perhaps an extra hour compared to the previous day. But I got up and ready to go by 10. Or was it 11? Either way, I knew half my roommates had already started doing things that day, but by the time I was ready, one of them had already come back, and I went around with him for a bit.
I do believe we went by the Dealer's Den, first. Maybe. If I'm right. I know I went there later in the day. I think my morning trip there, I just looked around again without buying anything.
There was one panel I went to. It was intro to fursuiting. Got some good tips there. Both about fursuiting and about being a handler. I do know that going to AC has finally made me really want to get a suit. But, chances are good that I probably won't have one by the time of AC next year. I know my friends are planning on suiting then, so it would probably be a good idea for me to be a handler if I don't have a suit. I'll make a journal post about it later.
Speaking of suits, I think after that, we went to see the Fursuit parade. So many fursuits...you'd think we were at a furry convention or something. There were some pretty good ones, even though I only managed to catch the tail end of the parade.
I'm pretty sure we went back to the Dealer's Den after that. Met up with another roommate there. This time I did buy a few things. I got a poster and set of coasters from TaniDaReal. On a side note, I met Tani! I wasn't expecting to meet her, but she's awesome! Okay, carrying on. I also bought a couple prints from SilentRavyn. I think I may have seen her art online before, but for some reason I didn't really notice it, if that makes sense. But she's a great artist with a style I really like. And she's a great person. I chatted with her for a bit. It was great! So were the prints I got. I'm glad I had a backpack with me with a folder. That way I was able to safely store the things I bought.
Did a quick tour through the Artist Alley again. This time, I wasn't preoccupied looking for my badge, so I actually payed attention to the art. I stopped by Fable again to check on my commission. We chatted some more. She was still working on it, but no worries. It was fun chatting with her again.
Afterwards, one of my roommates wanted to see the panel by Larry Dixon. I kinda felt bad, because I really had no idea who he was. The panel wasn't for another hour. I had time to go on my own and stop by a meet up for feline furs. My persona's a cheetah, and I wanted to meet people, so I went. I wasn't very good at meeting people. But I did say hi to one person. I proceeded to forget her name. Go figure. The meet was fun though. There was yarn everywhere and people were getting stuck. I guess that is a good way to meet someone, when you're both tangled together with yarn.
I quickly made it back up to make it to the Larry Dixon panel. Met up with my roommates Drek and Kehei. Now, I knew nothing about this Larry Dixon person, but he was a guest of honor at AC. You know what? I'm so glad I went to that panel. Not only was it a very inspiring panel, but Larry Dixon is good people. Honestly. And maybe that's what helped inspire me. He's a fantastic illustrator, but he's so humble about it, and he's just a likable person. So, some wannabe hobbyist artist like me was able to feel "Yeah, maybe I can do art. And maybe I will get better. Because this guy right here, he's good people, and he makes me feel like I can be awesome if I want to." One of the things he said that I think I will always remember was about getting your 20 minutes. That is, when he was starting out, artists that he admired gave him 20 minutes of taking him seriously. And that launched his career. And he learned that as time went on, it was his turn to give artists their 20 minutes. Granted, I'm not looking to be a professional artist. Well, at least not in the traditional sense. I'm learning to be a software engineer, but I want to make art using those skills. My friend, Drekian, he got his 20 minutes from Larry Dixon. I think that was awesome. Way to go, Drek. Like I said, Larry Dixon is good people.
After that, there weren't really anymore panels to go to. I wasn't really sure what to do. It was still afternoon, or perhaps early evening. However, Drek had gotten an invite to hangout with
twilightsaint and some folk, and Kehei and I tagged along. It was fun meeting those folk and Twilight. It was nice meeting her, too. Some of the folk I recognized by art that Twilight made for them. So the semi-large group of us went to go grab some pizzas. A very kind soul in the group, I don't know who, bought all the food. I was okay with that. We gathered back at the Zoo to eat and chat and be merry. I got to know a few of the folk. Unfortunately, their names escape me as well. I'm horrible with names. Absolutely horrible. I'm sorry.
But we did get ice cream after, the whole lot of us! There was Ben & Jerry's store right by the con. Can you believe it? Ben & Jerry's ice cream store! I've never seen one of those, let alone one jam packed with furries. I don't normally eat Ben & Jerry's. But that's because all my folks ever get is Cherry Garcia and Chunky Monkey, and I don't care for those flavors. So I got like a...I don't know what it was called...something like a chocolate chocolate death by chocolate milkshake or something like that. It was good.
We met up with my third roommate, Slas, at the place. And we all enjoyed ice cream outside the hotel. We chatted. Had fun. Made merry. This time with ice cream. I found out about something called the Masquerade. I wasn't sure what it was, but we all ended up going. Turns out, it's a talent show! It was neat seeing folks perform in suit. Some bits were entertaining. Others were funny. Others fell a bit flat, to be honest. But who am I to judge? It was still a fun, good, time.
Kehei managed to disappear during the Masquerade. But we managed to find him outside the the ballroom where the Masquerade was. He was with a whole bunch of Quebec furs. Now, something about the Quebec furs, at least 2 or 3 of them had panda characters, Kehei included. So, thanks to that, now if I ever see someone with a panda suit, I'm gonna be thinking "I wonder if they're from Quebec..."
The Quebec furs, they were all speaking French, which I don't know, so I didn't participate in the conversations. Though, there was one who I talked with for a while. And I remember his name! His name is Tore. See:
tore. He was cool. Apparently, I spoke English well. I have no idea how, though. I'm from down south, and I'm not all that good at speaking words. But that's just me, I guess.
Of interesting note, there was a girl, who was totally drunk, who totally glomped me. Like, I was legit glomped. Her friends apologized, but I didn't mind a girl near collapsing on me. I mean, I would love for that to happen more often. Preferable when they're not drunk. But, oh well. I felt lucky after that.
Side note: while we were all standing outside the ballroom, I think someone did something and hurt themselves. None of the people in my group or the Quebec furs. Just someone, because there were folks making sure no one walked close to the person. Why I'm mentioning this is because there was someone is a police dog fursuit. I know this, because the person had a shirt that said "Police K-9 Unit". And he was helping redirect traffic. I think that was absolutely brilliant. Anyways, tangent, sorry.
After the Masquerade, there was gonna be another dance. Drek wanted to go because a friend of his, Aconite, I think, or however you spell that, was gonna be one of the DJs. I had been in really high spirits, so I went as well. Unlike the previous nights, where I just wasn't feeling it about the dances, that night, I danced. Or, whatever lame excuse for dancing I could pull off. It was a rave. How the hell do you dance to that, anyways? But it was Drek and I and another person I can't remember the name of. He was part of the group with Twilight. He seemed like decent folk. But we danced. I, feeling lucky after getting randomly glomped earlier, was trying to see if there were any good lady types to dance with. Apparently, feeling lucky wasn't enough to get over my shyness. Though, there were a couple ladies that Drek and I danced with. But we danced, and that was it. She was an artist at the Artist Alley, and I made a note to go say hi to her the next day. The music was good, and the atmosphere was great. There was one song, I can't remember what it was called, but it was like about everyone being my best friend, and I almost felt that way, because that night was so good. I took a lot of pictures. Most didn't turn out good because lighting. There was some guy holding up a banner with a troll face. And I found the fursuit with the pimpin'-ass pants again. That suit, and pants, really fit at the rave. I later learned his name was
dippendot.
With my phone nearly dead, my body nearly dehydrated, and I desperately needing to use the restroom, I took a break and rested from the dancing. The thing about taking a break, though, it was just hard to get back into dancing. It was getting late though. Spent a good few hours in the dance, and Aconite had finished up, and a less good DJ was playing. So, Drek and I figured it was time to start heading back to the room.
All in all, I think Saturday was the best day of the con. Not because of the panels, but just all the things we did. The people we met. Larry Dixon's panel, hanging out with Twilight and company, and that dance just totally made my night. It went as good as I could have hoped, and it made me all the sadder that the next day would be the last. But I didn't have to worry about that. It was still Saturday, and I was on top of the world.
