This is just a quick list of Public Domain books and authors I've enjoyed. It's culture and its free!
Robert Louis Stevenson: Everyone knows Treasure Island, his other novels are also good.
Robinson Crusoe
H P Lovecraft: Lots of random racism here though. Still The Color Out of Space, At the Mountains of Madness and Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath are worth a read. More if you like it.
Sherlock Holmes, All of it, short stories through to Hound of the Baskervilles
Robbery Under Arms, like a cowboy story except it's Australian so we call them Bushrangers.

I've a passing familiarity with most of these works. Never actually read Crusoe or Lovecraft. First I've heard of Robbery Under Arms.
