Does anybody remember the "Boy who cried wolf"? (or Fossa for us arboreal pro-simians)
That is my issue with all this sensationalist hype. The United States has been in perpetual war for almost 80 years... Every time it is the same story. A brutal regime is victimizing the innocent civilians of a country many of you could not point to on a globe. They show you brilliant technicolor images of terrible atrocities. The media rams it all down your throat so fast you don't even have time to ask a single question. The president comes up to the podium and says "no, really, this time it is totally legit" "we totally got it right this time" . Then, without even the consent of the congress the bombs drop. The rebels that we have been arming for ten years turn their guns on the regime we have been arming for 20, and it's all for "freedom". Bring in the troops, further destabilize region, pay every military/defense contractor their bonus, install puppet regime, sell drugs to sponsor the war while running a "war on drugs" and wait for the blow-back to bring us back in 20 years.... Rinse and repeat..
I have been paying attention. If the world feels it must intervene, let it. this time the US needs to stay out. We have been arming rebels destabilizing the area for longer than two years. I know two wrongs don't make a right. But we have already had our sticky little hands in this mess trying to overthrow the Assad regime by feeding rebels linked with Al-Qaeda a steady stream of weaponry. The religious fundamentalists that replace Assad don't have a much better track record. Syria is on the brink of all out Civil war, it's not up to us to choose a winner. Scratch that, it is not beneficial to the citizens on Syria, or the United States to meddle any further, and choose a winner.
We seriously fall for it every time. For God's sake.. just once.. pay attention.. and wait until you have the facts straight before the bullets fly. Because after seeing this for three decades of my own existence, I simply don't believe anything any media outlet, or government agency says when they are justifying military action. Shame on you if you fool me once, shame on me if you fool us for 80 years.
Wolf! Wolf! Wolf! Or for my lemur cousins... Fossa! Fossa! Fossa!

Were there probably at one time actual Syrian citizens fighting to create peace? Yes. But the people fighting don't have uniforms or generals or governments or media. If we did nothing they would call us monsters for allowing it to happen (Like Bahrain) and we should intervene more strongly to stop it. When we intervene they call us Israel's bottom bitch and we're doing it for *insert reason here*
It's fucked up over there. No, we shouldn't get involved. But we can't help getting involved if Russia is involved. We have a huge hard-on for one-upping Russia and they are the ones shipping arms to the Syrian government. We have been fighting proxy wars/war games with Russia for decades in the middle east. That's what it's really all about.
I don't know if you have seen this before but it's a _great_ doc. I love vice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKHPTHx0ScQ
Thank you for your perspective on it all! You seem like a trustworthy tree-dweller. I'll believe you before I believe any news outlet.
