I want to start off by saying this has nothing to do with me. I saw something that made me absolutely furious and for good reason
so I want to first offer the artist this happened to my condolences, then explain why what happened is a HORRIBLE thing.
So as usual I was browsing and checking my messages on the various sites I'm on. I came across a BEAUTIFUL piece of
artwork and I clicked it to give the artist praise and I saw they had requested a critique as well. However all
100+ comments was a huge shit storm of assholes. This artist made this pic as a personal piece and was quite proud
of it and loved it as she said. Well the shitstorm all started with one comments.
"Oh you have time to work on something this detailed but not my commission? Expect a notice on paypal demanding a refund."
The artist tried to defend herself by explaining that she had been working on this piece for a while
before he commissioned her and she felt like finishing it to use as a break from commission work. She also explained
that she has tried to contact the commissioner to show him the progress of his pic but he has never responded.
So after that first asshole tons of people started to bash the artist despite the fact they had no right to nor know what is really going on.
I read some of these comments and my face was just o____________________________O
She draws something for herself while she had taken on commission work and she gets flamed to hell for it. Well this
artist deleted the picture and then made the announcement that after she finishes the remaining commissions she will be disabling her
account and wiping out her gallery.
I tried to tell her not to do this because by doing so you are enabling their behavior. She thanked me but said that she just
can't handle it anymore. I looked through her gallery and literally in every personal pic there is at least 3 assholes bitching about how
artists should probably do their commissions before they start on anything else etc etc.
So after reading this I got furious to say the least so here is my message to anyone that commissions an artist.
First let me Explain HOW to commission an artist.
1. Look at their gallery, does their style suit you?
2. Look at the commissions they have done for people, READ the feedback of said commission.
3. Look at their prices, if you cannot find them ask we won't bite.
4. Make sure you give the artist everything they need to draw your commission properly.
5. When you are shown the WIP do not be afraid to point out mistakes.
6. Make sure everything is correct and do not wait till the artist is coloring or shading to point out they messed something up.
7. Do you like the finished pic? Tell the artist thank you!
Here is my message to anyone that commissions artists.
Yes we accepted your commission, however when an artist gets nothing but paid work and that is all they focus on, sometimes
it can become a chore more than a fun job. Sometimes artist have to draw something for their self, not because they are lazy and don't want
to work on your pic, but because if they don't then they will not enjoy working on the commission. I'm sure alot of you have heard
of art blocks right? Well if an artist ONLY does nothing but commission work then they can develop these blocks. Alot of
artist have their own projects they like to do aside from commission work and if they have just done
nothing but slaved over paid jobs then it lose the drive to even pick up the pen.
Now I'm not making any excuses for laziness at all. If an artist has done nothing but work work work and they feel
un motivated because they are too afraid of doing something on their own to break the ice, do you really want to force them to do
your pic and take the chance it could look bad compared to other works? Artists are human too you know? If we feel like
drawing something for our self vs working on a commission at the moment then just remember it is most likely
because the artist is feeling over worked and needs a break.
"Well if they need a break then why are they drawing?"
This is asked alot in this case, because of commissioners only get porn of gay dog dickings or any other porn, or the same things
over and over again thins can get real stale for the artist. It helps for them to draw something for their self, maybe in their
personal pic they colored it a certain way and was like "Holy shit that looks good! I should do this for my commissions!"
Also if they are taking a break from commissions by drawing for themselves then usually this means that we
don't want to develop rust on the wrists. We are not dodging your pic, we need an outlet so we can draw freely and make as
many mistakes we want and learn from them so we may use these new skills in our commission work. So please do not yell
at an artist for not constantly doing commissions, let us breathe sometimes please?
You may share this with others if you want, by re posting in your journal.

This is completely true on all accounts, unfortunately. I rarely ever get to do personal pieces now because I dont want to deal with the flak of what this person did and the hell that came up :( Really sucks that people dont put in consideration that artists' work off of creativity and inspiration, and when your not feeling 100% the work will indeed show it. Besides, if you place an order for something in the real world, there's no guarantee that the person manufacturing your product didnt go on lunch or a break in the middle of it. Why shouldn't artists get that same break? Not to mention they might level up they're skill while practicing the personal piece. You could get better talent for your buck by just waiting a bit >.O
