Some people construde the slot system as picking favorites if people see the same people being picked. For a variety of reasons, some of which can be that they pay more. That's the main reason some people find the raffle system to be fair. And if enough people say that it works, then they'll continue to do so, which is why they then adopt it as a fair system.

It's a double edge sword, no matter what people pick, so it depends on what the artist finds works for people and himself. Not to mention, it helps cut down on the whole "chasing after people for payments". Oh, what's that? You left and are nowhere to be found? Well, then I guess it'll go to someone else who IS here and CAN pay right away. Why bother sending a note that'll get replied in a week when there are others willing right here? (sorry, that last one was from experience...)

I dont think that raffles are the source of all evil; its just when they're the only option.

It sucks when deadbeats dont pay up on slots, I honestly can give you that. And I can understand that someone can say it seems like picking favorites with only a slot system (unless its just a general slot system that is a mile long, then if people really want the art they can wait like anyone else one slot at a time, but that has the disadvantage of people taking off because of the wait, so that isnt a solution really either).

There really should be. But it's because of the time zone differences that makes it hard. And even having a slot system has it's disadvantages with a time difference. The notice for commissions could be down when people get onto FA after doing whatever it is they do in their lives.
