Moment of terror
Oh god. Ladies and gents, I had the most TERRIFYING moment earlier.
I start up my computer after being offline all day... and go to open my secondary hard drive. The larger one where ALL of my art is stored.
Nothing there. I don't mean it's empty. I mean the drive doesn't SHOW. AT ALL.
I start freaking out, terrified that it's just gone kaput and I lost EVERYTHING.
Restarted. Nothing. Did this a couple more times, going into setup and everything. Can't find it in there.
I opened my computer up and re-seated the hdd. Fingers crossed here! Put it back together, push the power annnnd... nothing.
No power. But it's plugged in. The motherboard light is on, thank goodness! More rummaging around led me to find that maybe I loosened the power feed for the switch when I was fumbling with the SATA cables with my big ol hamfists. Pushing all that around, I closed up one last time and started her up, terrified.
After finding my keyboard didn't work and getting THAT fixed, I eventually got on and found... MY FILES! My precious files!
I didn't lose them! But HOLY SHIT THAT WAS TERRIFYING!
So... close call! And now I'm backing up all the art tonight onto my old external. x.x

U wot m8?
I'd wanted to finish the new computer I have *almost* build, sitting here in boxes, for Christmas. But then my wife got laid off. So... yeah. The new one's getting a bigger drive and I'll be bringing these to it, so I'll have multiple places for storage. Whenever that happens.
And yes, backing up stuff is a sensible and rational thing to be doing after a scare like that.
Also print copies so you can scan them.
maybe use some cloud space as well, that depending if you trust a company with your data XD
i just set up my ownCloud but that requires a server so yeah XD
