Icepocalypse/Fimbulwinter 2013

I was there, I survived. It is absolutely amazing to see every surface covered by a clear sheet of ice for miles around; almost like the whole world is covered in a layer of glass. It was also amazing to see the night sky with few lights to obscure the stars. And then, it sets in that the lack of light accompanies the lack of heat in so many houses and it was because the pretty layer of glass caused limbs to break off and bring down the electrical lines that we rely so much on. Pull the plug and you lose heat, water, light, and the temperature starts dropping very quickly. New houses, looking at 1-2 degrees an hour, older places can be 2-5 times faster.
Two showers and I still cannot get the stink of wood, kerosene, and the smell of body funk from days of only being able to have water to drink (and not able to bathe.) That and I smell of husky (but that is by far pleasant compared to the rest) because despite being near the fireplace I could not get my back warm and huskies are like fluffy furnaces that you can fuel with pizza and that pack instinct makes it easy to create puppy piles that will keep you warmer than any blanket
Lets just say, it sucked big time and I was far better off than many.
