Big News - Life changing of 2014
Happy [Belated] New Years to all you fur and furettes of the FA interwebs! Its finally here, 2014! Another brand new year to call our own, a new slate to work on for this years resolutions, and projects!
Aside from the Hoorah of the celebration, I have some very interesting news. As of December 27, 2013, I've been officially accepted to teach English abroad in South Korea. I'm both excited and terrified at the same time; for one ting its going to be a WHOLE new experience for me, a new place, new responsibilities, and new chances to both meet new people and immerse myself in a different culture. I'm scared though because its some place really far away from friends and family, and the fact its 9 hours ahead of my normal time zone, its going to be a tad tricky to get in conversations with people [not going to stop trying though].
Maybe some of you are wondering why, 'why did he do that?' well, to be honest, I've been wanting to do this for almost 2 years, considering it started back in 2011 when I had graduated University and had no real job to go to. My friend had suggested to teach abroad and got me in touch with a Korean company that provides English teachers from Canada, US and the UK to teach in China, Japan or South Korea. I was interested and did all I could to get sorted with them, but it sadly turned into a dead-end and nothing came of it.
Since then however, a lot of people I've spoke with knew others, friends and family, who've taught abroad there and all say its one of this 'life changing experiences', and considering I was getting rather tired of not going anywhere in my current job, I decided to invest once more in searching for a teaching job abroad, and after months of searching, researching, communicating, discussing, interviewing and follow-ups, I finally got accepted to teach abroad, starting in March of 2014.
I'm still gitty for the possibility of going overseas to teach, not only will this be a very rewarding experience for me, but I plan to also gain some incite into Korea Culture as well as develop my teaching skills which have been a bit dusty since my Swim Instructor days. It also helps to write something like this on your CV, as well as potentially help me get into Teachers Collage, one of my older goals I wanted to do post my graduation.
Still, there's a lot to be done, and even though I know what I need to do, I'm still frantic; excitement and worry both fill me, but I've got to follow some wise words of my mum 'just go with your gut, don't always think.'
