Season 4 episode 12 (or episode 77) [SPOILERS!]

General
I like 7. Its one of my lucky numbers, and this ep has two. Once again, 7 didn't let me down.
So... The big news of the episode, let's get that out of the way first. Little Strongheart was back! I don't really care about anything else! I mean, that one guy was there and stuff, but... Little Strongheart!
Ok, ok. I really do like Little Strongheart and it was awesome to see her again. Its actually quite surprising we saw her return before Gilda (if that will ever happen) even if she did not have a speaking role. But yeah... Let's get the real big one out of the way. I can imagine some people do not care much for the idea of Weird All in the show. And some people will think its fantastic. Personally, I am not the biggest fan of Weird Al, but I like the guy and his work enough. I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon, but I did want to see what the ep would be like before I formed an opinion. And I have to say, they might have been able to use Al a bit better maybe, but not by much if at all. You can tell how much fun he had with this.
The goof off was fantastic. The whole episode was just a blast from start to finish (well, maybe after Pinkie's somewhat quick sad-jealousy phase, I wouldn't have minded to see that given a bit more time. But meh, nitpicking), but the goof off was one of the highlights. Real life Gummy... That just cracked me up. The songs were all very good all the way up to great. "Make a wish, it's your birthday", that line... I can listen to it all day.
So, let's talk a bit about "fan service." One of the bronies I see on a more regular basis has the habit of shouting "fan service" quite a bit. Rarity gets a wet mane? Fan service. A reference to something that happened in an earlier episode? Fan service. Some pony sneezes? Fanservice (well, not really. but you know). That annoys me. Not everything is fanservice. One of the things I love so much about this show is, if there is such a thing as fanservice in it, its always rather subtle. I can not explain how much I loved to see BonBon with a saddlebag with a lyre for a clasp, or Derpy with one with a muffin clasp. For the people who know what its about its great, those who don't know won't even notice. Its charming and doesn't disrupt the flow of the show at all. The filly versions of some of our beloved background characters today might not have been quite that subtle, but again, wouldn't disrupt the flow of the show. So we got filly Cheerilee, filly Derpy (I know so many people went bat-shit crazy over that), filly Lyra and Bon Bon (the latter of which was wearing Twist-style glasses which I thought was adorable) and if that really was filly Colgate with braces, then... Fan-friggin-tastic. People might say that this isn't actually fan service, but I doubt it would have happened without the fandom. It is clear that the staff has a rather large pool of background fillies and colts, but they instead redrew some of the adult background ponies (they already had Cheerilee for that, but still). Interesting to see Berry still as an adult though, I know some people like the idea of her and Cheerilee being sisters. I guess she is the older one in that case.
Regardless of you like Weird Al in the show or not, you can't deny how much fun the crew obviously had with this. Personally, I had an incredible amount of fun with the ep as well. So, share your thoughts :)

FA+

The RL Boneless and Gummy were awesome. It's like the early episodes of Spongebob when it was actually funny. The Boneless puppet was shot in Jayson Thiessen's basement. I think Derpy had that saddlebag already in Putting Your Hoof Down. There's just too much good stuff in the episode.
I loved that song and the fact that they made it appear in this episode made my day.
And that real life Gummy.
I love this episode.
Also, yeah, that line "Make a wish, it's your birthday!" has been stuck in my head since yesterday. Can't wait for the remixers to take a crack at this episode.
