Rarity, if you would?
Thank you.
By Celestia's beard, how was that for a finale? I am seriously speechless. And I can say that since I am typing this. The first episode was mostly build-up. Was awesome to see all three princesses sing to Twilight. I am sad to say I got spoiled when it came to Tirek, which was a bit of a bummer. For those of you who didn't know beforehand I can only pray you knew who he was and what a treat it was to see him. This is MLP and arguably FiM is at times a bit tamer maybe then some of the G1 stuff, but even in the FiM setting Tirek is pretty damn scary (ya know, relatively speaking). If you consider Discord's powers, he should be one of the most powerful creatures in Equestria and beyond. And Tirek just steals his powers as if its nothing. Very interesting to notice though that Discord's eyes didn't change. I wonder if the staff will do anything with that in season 5. Maybe not, but it definitely made me go "huh". Most of the ponies seem to be stuck in place where they were attacked by Tirek, although the Element Bearers and Discord seem a lot more lively still. That's probably nothing more then convenient storytelling though. Discord's Mary Poppin's entrance was, for me at least, also a highlight.
Anyway. episode 26. I am, as I have said before, an avid FiM fanfic reader. Quite a few fics have used the idea of one of the alicorns hiding or giving up their power(s). I have yet to read one where they don't loose their wings, horn, or both. Quite a visual spectacle when they give their powers to Twilight, but I was surprised to see them still with their horn and wings. Goes to show you how fanon can change your perspective. Discord's betrayal... Well, it drove the plot forward. Its Discord, so sure, why not? The scene with Fluttershy was well done, poor gal. His comeuppance comes fairly quickly. In a way it can make sense he didn't see it coming. He probably hasn't really been in the position to be betrayed before. It hurts a bit to see how easily he is overcome, I feel like he has no reason to allow that to happen. But whatever. It will be interesting to see what the fandom makes off his apparent former history with Tirek. Tirek obviously knows him. Up until this point, the episodes have been, for me at least, very entertaining with a compelling story.
And then... Forgive me for coining this phrase, but I can't help myself. Holy shit... The show goes completely Avatar: The Last Airbender on us. (I could also maybe say DBZ, but buck that, TLA is soooo much better :P). The library gets destroyed, which I am sure for many of was actually pretty monumental. That building has been with us since episode one. It kinda hurts that it's gone to be honest. Very nice to see the animators and writers having the time to take Owlowiscious into account. And then the proper fighting starts. I was blown away. We got a bit of a taste with the flashback in the season opening when we saw the fight between Luna and Celestia, but this... It was brief and suffered some limitation because of the show in question, maybe, but daaaayum... That was a seriously good action sequence, and as far as I'm concerned unlike anything we have seen in the show before. Just... friggin wow.
So Twilight gives up her powers for her friends (which admittedly was probably a very stupid and selfish thing to do, but who cares and also I doubt anyone didn't see that coming a mile away), Discord gives her the final key, the box is opened and the Mane Six turn Super Saiyan level 2 (see? I can save the DBZ thing for this scene). Tirek is defeated, we get some pretty cool nod-backs to the ponies of the Key episodes, we see Cerberus again. Twilight gets a new home, they all power down again (and for me personally, that was a "thank Celestia for that!" moment :P) and they now have Palace Tree with a throne for each of them. Even Spike, and again, thank Celestia for that. Fluttershy's remark towards Discord was welcome as well. Twilight knows her purpose now (and I personally think its a very good one) and we have the final song where Spike sadly doesn't have a part in, but meh. Nitpicking.
This finale has got me so, so hyped for Season 5. I have never stopped enjoying the show, but the enthusiasm had dwindled a bit. But this could definitely be a turning point, where they can really pump some fresh energy into the show. Certainly seems what they are going for, and in my opinion it would not be a bad thing at all. There are always things I can nitpick about (and I even did once or twice here), but as far as I'm concerned the finale lived up to the hype and then some.
Ok, two more things. One: if anyone has any ideas for the group during the season draught, by all means, let us know. If not, I might post a journal once or twice, but for the most part its probably going to be quiet until the opening of season five.
Secondly, and before I bit you all adieu for now, a moment of silence please.

*now shares silence for the library...*
Miss Friendship and Miss Loyalty both seem to be fresh out of their schtick when awesome griffons like me are around!
As for the Lul in episodes for the next 6-ish months, maybe speculation on season 5?
Also, thank GOD its actually confirmed as having a 5th season, saves the months of consoling people who've been endlessly trolled over it. xD
I'm excited looking ahead as well. The show's put a good shift in the status quo, which is something I didn't actually think they would really do. There's still plenty of roads to be covered, but it's been a crazy ride getting here. So, yeah... that's some good finale right there to a great season. Here's to many more.
Also: all that said, I think I can go for some more low-stakes slice-of-life stuff now. My thirst for the heavy stuff has been well sated :P
Also, Super Sayan level 2 ponies is so becoming my new background later today. *Squee!*
