Traveling, and Draw-For-Your-Relatives syndrome
17 years ago
Wow, the adoptables were a big success. My heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who bought them--the money from them allowed me to buy Christmas presents for my family, and helped me through the minor rent crisis I went through earlier this month. It's always good to have a roof to stay under when the weather is as cold as it is now!
To all who ordered: I am sending out the adoptables on the 22nd.
Also, lol at travel plans. I am going to Germany to visit my family for the holidays, and TWO DAYS AGO I found out that I actually have to leave from Ontario California, not SLC Utah, in order for my military travel orders to be valid. Whoops! So a few hours of frantic scrabbling later we got some tickets to California and coerced my aunt into picking me up and letting me sleep over for the night.
I'm glad that it all worked out. But still... wee stress. I also am now obliged to do some artistic tidbit for my aunt as a thank you for the help. Does anyone else get this in their families--the Automatic You're-Supposed-to-Draw-Your-Relatives-Something syndrome? Where you're expected to do art for every relative and their dog for free? Out of Christmas or birthday ideas?--Have Danke do a portrait! Or five! The perfect personal gift!
fffgghghffsd.
Not like I'm ungrateful for my aunt's help or anything. She's amazing for taking me in on such short notice. But I sorta wish I didn't have such a reputation in my family as an artist. Maybe I should take up drawing extreme, off-the-wall furry fetishes and see how much they want me to draw them free stuff then.

FA+

I think it's mostly that I would do art for them as presents... so now they're like "Art! Plz!" and I'm like... "I'm actually making money off this stuff now... goawai. D:"
"You should make you grandpa a little figurine of a bear that's wearing the Chicago Cubs uniform and it looks like it's swinging a bat and paint his fur the team colours and..."
"Uh... dad? He thought that the last bear I made was a frog."
Wow... xD
Yeah, I guess I am fortunate, then! You poor thing.
Perfect idea! ^ ^
Well, at least *I'm all for it. I don't get a lot of requests from family or anything like that, mainly because most of my art I never show off to them, for obvious reasons. -_-;;
As for your relatives, mine just have to put me up for nothing, lol. Perhaps not having artistic talent is to my benefit? Usually taking them out to dinner is sufficient repayment for a few nights of crashspace, and if I'm particularly broke they understand that not happening.
And oooh Ontario. I flew out of that that airport for four years; it's small and efficient, so hopefully you won't get bogged down there given the holidays. They filmed one of the Jack in the Box commercials there recently, a fact that will never cease to amuse me, even if I *was* really annoyed with the terminal closure at the time.
