The more previews I see from this new film the less I am liking it. In the first movie Hickup was 'special'. He unlocked the secrets of the dragons and was the first viking to ride one. In this new film we discover he is not special and was not the first to ride a dragon. His mother was. It's sort of the same problem Star Wars had. The first Star Wars film was cool because many kids could relate to Luke. We wanted the adventure he had and he showed us that if you believe in a cause you can achieve great things. Luke dreamed of adventure then want on to take out the Death Star. Then in later films we discover he only did so because he 'inherited' the force and was 'prophesized' to be the one that would bring balance to the Force. Sorry kids! Unless you have midiclorians or a 'dragon riding' mom in your blood, you are just another un-special kid.

I never really thought of Hiccup as being special myself. He just seems to be about the only person on Berk with an IQ over 80. And with the introduction of his mother, at least now we know where Hiccup got his brains. I'm interested to see how they will justify her staying away from Berk all this time.

I'm really surprised they revealed his mom in the trailers though. That seems like the kind of thing you'd save to surprise the audience in the actual movie. I'm hoping that means they're saving some bigger surprises for the movie. At least, they'd better have more surprises otherwise I'm going to be disappointed.
