Sorry "I like your art" isnt a valid reason for discounts.

How freaky is this..
Sorry But I just have to get this off my chest.
I appreciate it if people who like my art, really I do.
But I cannot eat compliments, I cannot eat art appreciation.
My prices are what they are because I work hard at my commissions. I live off what I make. It goes to food, bills, and fun. But mostly food.
So I had someone who got a commission (and I will not be accepting any future commissions from this person)
Who I was under the impression wanted a full color profile picture. He said color, so I assumed he meant full color unless he told me otherwise. Of course this was a bust so I was willing to discount it.
However When I asked how much they expected to pay for it (I offered $30). They said they had expected it for $15-$20. This was after a full color image was pretty much nearly done (minor highlights and touchups needed)
the reason for this heavily discounted price: They had gotten some art from me a few years back and "I like ur art"
This...just killed my mood. I put down my stylus and probably wont pick it back up tonight.
I am tempted to just delete the image and drop the commission. Because I am getting some bad vibes.
as I stated, I will not be accepting any further commissions from this person.
I appreciate you like the artwork, but please understand that I live off what I make. I put all my effort into every piece. and this....Bleh
sorry for rantiness..I will try and see if I can draw again later.

And then you get people like this who think try to come up with different discounts. Liking someone's art isn't a discount. Liking their art is the reason why you get a commission in the first place. And the only reason I can honestly see a repeat customer discount is if this person gets multiple commissions from you all the time, like upwards of several hundred dollars worth of artwork.
So don't feel too bad about it. Some people try to weasel their way out of things. Make sure that everyone understands what is asked before hand and a price is agreed upon - no negotiations.
Someone I talked to said that if a person likes my art, they should be willing to pay the full price, If Not More!.
I am all too happy to give discounts to friends and repeat customers. But Just expecting it every time is hurtful.
Again If I have repeat commissioners. I am more than happy to show my appreciation by giving them discounts, upgrades (Pay for lineart, get a Flat-color free), and the like. I will usually tell them that I am gonna shave a couple bucks off here and there, or include things free. These are how I show my appreciation. And I want them to come back.
As stated. I worry (At times unnecessarily) about charging too much, is the artwork worth the price. And I am really happy that people enjoy my artwork. But what happened today hurt me bad enough it ended up killing the drawing mood, all creative thought...GONE.
I live off what I make, as I said. So this came across incredibly hurtful. The person was essentially saying "I like your art and got a picture years ago, so I want to pay you only a fraction of what you normally charge"
Sorry hun. I feel you and if it is who i think it is I've been there right with you.
Still trying to decide what to do with the image.
I wish you the best, but this does happen to you a lot as an established pattern.
