Here's the other crazy story from the convention. This time, I'm an active participant in the chaos.
FurCoNZ Story #2:
Never Trust Your Neighbors
I was letting one of the deck purchasers get a shot at some Mayoring and slipped myself into a game. A lot of the smaller details escape me, so this one will be rather rough around the edges. I was the Shaman, and from just about the start of the game I was suspicious of the gal next to me. Skitters.
My one chance with Totem of Death was like, night one, and I used it on someone else. My suspicions were light, I mean, not everyone who tries to be buddy-buddy with the game's maker is evil, right?
I am probably mistaken in the order of the following events, but here's the gist of it... Three Werewolves, and I was starting to notice some very subtle misdirection going on. I pressed very hard on Skitters and I was told by the 'Wolves later on that in that one turn, I pegged all three wolves almost back to back and majorly freaked them out. That night, the 'Wolves were set to kill me, but Skitters - surprise, one of the 'Wolves - had them kill someone else because I had put so much pressure on her. "No, kill anyone else, but if you kill him, I'll be next!"
Now, realize, this group is a social group, not a logic-heavy group, so in other situations, some of what follows may not have been logical by the evil guys, but sometimes that can make things really fun. Also forewarning, there were a few Mayoring mistakes, but nothing that ruined the game IMO.
Morning comes, and the Seer calls out a Werewolf. Not Skitters, but another guy. I back up the Seer because why-the-heck-not. The 'Wolf counters by throwing it back on me and the Seer. Did I mention there was a Turncoat this round? Yeah. That's important. Oh, also did I mention I gave the Totem of Cowardice to Skitters? Twice actually, but I can't remember if it was the round before this or the round afterwards. I think before this, and that's part of why I was pushing so hard to lynch her then. And then it was something other than Protection. And then it was Protection twice (with the second one given to myself rather than the other Villager but I'll get to that) and never Death. Sadface.
Where was I? Oh right, Seer with no protection other than me having just called out a Werewolf. Well, I still wanted to lynch Skitters but we didn't have time. Good was dropping fast and I was concerned that through her clueless act that she was maybe just the Turncoat. So I agree to push to lynch the Werewolf, getting knowledge that myself and one other in the Village were non-'Wolves. Three Werewolves, (Evil) Turncoat, Seer, Heretic, Villager, Shaman. We need 4 votes to lynch with 8 alive, I even emphasize this, but we actually end up getting 5 votes. The Werewolves were scared and still fairly new. But that makes this more fun. The evil Turncoat didn't even vote, and good was majorly outnumbered. Ah well. Dead Werewolf.
That night, I draw the Totem of Impatience, rather than the Totem of Protection. I hand it to one of the two people I think are Werewolves. It goes to the Turncoat but I was suspecting him a bit more than Skitters. She's playing me quite well. Day comes, and I immediately accuse the last person to vote on the previous round. Supposedly he was second-to-last and Skitters was last, but I could only look left OR right, and they were my neighbors. But he was very unsure about voting. The Turncoat didn't vote at all, so that's why he got Impatience. We vote, and as I feared, only myself and the Villager raised our hands. But with 6 left, we lynched... another Werewolf. Yay! I can maybe win!
5 left, I draw Totem of Protection. Damn, I soooo wanted Death. I give it to myself. Day comes, no one dies. And then I realize... The numbers still aren't on my side. Maybe the Turncoat is Good? Maybe...? >.>; We go to lynch Skitters and (Mayor mistake alert) the Cultist didn't get shown the Werewolves so they were downgraded to a Heretic. But Skitters claimed Turncoat. o.o; I even got her to say it. Heretic knows nothing so I can't rely on them. Well, the other guy hasn't claimed Turncoat so... let's just kill him! We voted, Skitters voted, and it was... the real Turncoat. Ouch!
But the silliness/absurdness doesn't end there! Oh no, not when I'M playing! I draw my totem, hoping hoping hoping for Death or Influence or something. I draw Protection and... fail. I give it to myself, and when day comes, the Villager is the one slain. I could have saved everyone, if only I had been risky! But no! So, instead, it's me, a 'Heretic', and the Werewolf.
A staredown happens. Thinking quickly I yell out: "I'm actually the Werewolf, kill her!" and accuse. The audience does their best to hide their major wtf looks. I continue to press, hoping to take advantage of inexperience and win over the Heretic. And then Skitters says something that makes me grin. Not that I had much of a straight face to begin with making such a ridiculous claim.
"But.... ..... I tried to kill you at night and you didn't die........?"
"BINGO! Exactly!!" I smile as I enthusiastically explain it to the Heretic. After all, I know when I'm beaten, and I'm here to make sure everyone has a good time. "Because the only way for someone to not die is the Totem of Protection, and because on the turn that someone didn't die I had a Totem, that means that I was supposed to die. And because Werewolves cannot target themselves, this means I absolutely CANNOT be the Werewolf. You are exactly right and I now submit to the forces of Evil."
Ahhh, that game. So much absurdity trying to fight through an evil-dominated village. I never realized how much the Turncoat can screw with a normal game. I might have to run with him more often.
Time to pack up, and get my head on straight for my trip back home and subsequent Furry Fiesta preparations. I wish some of the local group would go to the con, just to see this slightly-less-than-optimal socially-driven gameplay mentality. :D
Fantastic artist friends, go watch them! DO IT! :D

Well now I'm curious. As I recall, the Shaman has a moon in the background on his card, which I thought meant he was Team Evil. But upon playing everyone kept saying Shaman was a good-aligned character, which makes me think it's the gem color, not background, that implies alignment, and that the background only tells you if they're a Day Phase or Night Phase character.

If the card has a crescent moon on a twilight background they are on the Villagers Side and have a nighttime ability, (seer, bodyguard, shaman, etc.), if the card has a full moon on a midnight background they are on the side of the werewolves.

OP
Oh I was definitely a good character. :3 Shaman is indeed good. But I am amused that I tried to trick the 'Heretic' into thinking I was a Werewolf in spite of admitting earlier I had been targeted and not killed (and had a totem to boot). :P Hey, was worth a shot!

I remember that game... that was quite epic :D, lots of laughs when we found out who everyone truly was afterwards
