Greetings FLB Fans!
Welcome to the FLB Network's annual report on the upcoming FLB Amateur Draft- there are a lot of good rookies in the pool for the teams and we're all excited to see what they add to the league in this year and future years!
Keep in mind these are our picks for the top 12- but not a guarantee of how they'll come out! Without further ado:
#1 Shadow Hallsworth 2B/3B Siberian Husky- San Francisco, CA
Coming from a wealthy background, Shadow has done his hardest to prove that his talent is natural instead of bought.
Taking the route of public school rather than the private curcuit, Shadow has crushed it so far, and declared right out of high school for the draft.
Shadow is a solid all-around player in the infield, sure to challenge the likes of Alejandro Coyotl and Luis Marquez fairly quickly for high offensive marks, as well as being a solid glove.
#2 Cindy Lutrai SP North American River Otter- Oceanside, CA
Cindy was born and raised on the California coast. Her first passion was surfing but stated to get into baseball when she was 9. Since then she has become a great pitcher for her Jr. High and High School Baseball teams, racking up K's and shutouts thanks to her deadly curveball. Cindy is ranked by many FLB magazines as the top prospect- pitching or otherwise- this year.
#3 Tommy Fields OF Coyote- Indianapolis, IN
Tommy was noted for having outstanding power and speed in his high school days, but he took time off to puruse a law degree. He had said he wasn't considering pro ball an idea
#4 Molt Rise 2B/3B Winged Hyena- LaCrosse, WI
Not much has come out of the scouting reports on the young Hyena coming from Wisconsin, but those that do agree that Molt has the potential of being a five-tool infielder. Though his batting is above average, his speed on the basepaths helps to stretch out extra base hits, and his fielding presence and arm helped him rack up solid defensive keys. He looks to be a chance for a Glittering Glove every season.
#5 Alexandra Condon OF Golden Jackal- Memphis, TN
Alexandra is a cold operator, focusing most of her free time on practicing in the batting cages and running on Appilachian University's track to the point where even many of her teammates have called her detached. But her hard work has given her a keen eye and fleet feet, perfect for the field though many reporters have complained loudly that interviewing her is like talking to a statue.
#6 Ferdinand Fernandez SP Tiger- Miami Beach, FL
The son of an immigrant family, Ferdinand worked hard in his family’s restaurant growing up, practicing baseball during what little free time he had. He was raised in a rough neighborhood in the Miami area and had several run-ins with local gangs; one incident nearly cost him his life and left him with a large knife scar across his left face. He quickly gained a reputation for being a fiery fighter, and he brought that same passion to the mound when he pitched. In high school his numbers were staggering: 0.89 career ERA, 13-0 W/L record, 67 K’s… Key Biscayne State took note and wisely grabbed up a commitment from the young stud. In one year at that school he went lights out, finishing with a 1.52 ERA and a 9-2 record. The following year he transferred to a community college so he could come out for the draft a season early. While Ferdinand is hands down one of the top prospects of this year’s draft, his personal life makes him somewhat of a risk. He is notorious for his shady love affairs as well as his drinking and partying habits. There are rumors of illegal dealings he may or may not be involved in, but nothing has ever been confirmed and to date his record is completely clean.
#7 Don Garrett 1B Raccoon- Arlington, VA
Ever since the age of five, Don Garrett picked up a baseball bat and never let go of it. A very energetic boy, he spent the majority of his free time pretending he was a hall of fame player of that generation.
Those boyhood dreams have him on the verge himself, with scouts reporting on his competitive speed and keen eye for the bat. He ranks highest in his position in this year's draft, ready to slot in for most teams.
#8 Emily Vulpintaur RF Foxtaur- Gaithersburg, MD
Sister of Ty Vulpintaur, Emily decided to follow in her brother's pawsteps, long helping him develop his own skills as he inspired her. Coming out of the Univeristy of Maryland, she has proven to be a choice recruit in the right field.
#9 Kumiho "Kyu-Ball" Kakashi SP Kitsune- Kobe, Japan
Kumiho was twice voted in the top three of Pitcher of the Year in the Nippon Kemono Baseball League relying on the stereotype of Kitsune fox-trickery. His pitches are tight and seem to jump out of nowhere, and he is infamous for not relying on a fastball at all. How this will translate to American ball that tends to feast on a pitch lower than 95 mph will see.
#10 Carmella Figueora C Capybara- Naguabo, PR
The young catcher coming out of Puerto Rico has come a long way in a short time. Though she has had a strong interest in the sport going from high school with a perfect frame for catcher, it was only in the third year did she get major playing time, when she got the coaches' full attention after she withstood a charge from a heavyset bear baserunner trying to score by knocking her over and forcing her to drop the ball. The staff gave Carmela the catcher position full-time, and her experience behind the plate had already honed her patience and her eye for those perfect pitches to swing at. Like many at her position, her strength and speed are focused more for donning the catcher's mask rather than offense, but her keen eye and aim make her a formidable addition to a lineup.
#11 Javier Coronado RF/CF Jaguar- St. Paul, MN
A towering Jaguar showing his Mayan heritage proudly, this following scouting report sums up his abilities:
"I managed to catch a couple developmental league games which Javier was playing in, and he was impressive, though still in need of some refinement. He is a solid hitter, and doesn't try to force the ball off the bat. This led to a couple of unlucky outs off of hard hit balls, and he chased a couple of bad pitches that he should have taken. He has some pop in the bat, with a couple of booming home runs in batting practice and one that would have been if it stayed fair. Defensively, he was in right field and has great speed to track down balls, though his arm is average at best. The speed translates well on the bases, but he could use some coaching in how to be a more effective runner. Javier has potential and could be a high pick, but needs a year or two to really show his colors."
#12 Ketch Runner SP Donkey- Tallahassee, FL
Ketch was a up and comer two-sport athelete for basketball and football applying to Furry State until a freak ankle accident caused him to drop sports altogether. However the want to play burned in him and when his ankle was good enough to stand on, he translated his skills to a walkon pitcher's role where he tore through the ranks, compiling a 2.34 career college ERA. However his final year of eligibility he suffered again, tearing his rotator cuff. Only through sheer will and using his final year of college eligibility has brought him to the notice of scouts again, but now with questions of his fragility.
We'll have a quick look at the other 24 rookies coming soon- congratulations on those who've been highlighted and we're looking forward to the draft on June 13th!
GMs- here's how the draft will work; just like last year, I need your draft lists; there are only three rounds this year but I would still like your top 10 to provide enough wiggle room so you can get your slots filled!

Great draft class so far, guys. I saw film of Cindy Lutrai, and she reminds me a lot of Maxine Crumpley in that they don't throw hard but have devastating curveballs. As far as field players, I'd say that Coronado and Alexandra Condon are the ones that look like they are the most likely to start on opening day, while Hallsworth is quite possibly the best hitter in this rookie class. Can't wait to see where these young studs end up!
Forgot to mention there's no shortage of good pitching this year as well...but I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the prospects in the coming days.
