and then the entire lamplight labs building is abducted by macro aliens. what do you do? we are in their spaceship, sitting in a glass jar on a shelf! WHAT DO YOU DO?

Let's try boring a hole through the jar. If we do not have or cannot create some sort of device that can tunnel through glass--super advanced or otherwise--then we fail as a science lab.

I think lasers would be a good first choice. Don't want to risk shattering the glass entirely with something rough like a drill.

Whatever we use, we should bore the hole at the back of the jar, toward the wall where it'll be harder for the aliens to notice it. Then we can inch along the back of the shelf and scout out the room we're in.

It'd be great if it was made of C4. C4's one of the safest explosives out there; it only explodes with a detonator, and things like hitting it or setting it on fire (with or without a laser) won't make it go off.

And if we want to be safe, let's study the composition of the jar and see what it's really made out of to determine the safest way of cutting through it. We're all scientists here for crying out loud.

Perfect! Use lasers or some sort of heat-generating device to melt a hole through the back, and then help the members of the Enterprise in the next jar over.

How? We'd only be drilling a tunnel big enough for a person to get through, not melting the whole jar. If need be we could divert the melted runoff into containers or something. I'm not seeing the problem here.

Hell, we could even drill the hole at a downward angle so all the water just pools into it until we breach through the other side. Ice takes up more space than water, so the hole will be always be big enough to hold all the water it produces.

Like I said, scout out the shelf. See if there are any exits to the room we can use, or if there is some way we can escape the ship. You said the aliens had the Starship Enterprise in a jar next to ours. Let's help them out and collaborate to see what we can do. Let's see if there are other jars containing other prisoners.
