My normal method of dealing with commissions is:
PREVIEW DRAFT >>> PAYMENT >>> FINISHED PICTURE
Which I think is a pretty fair system for both the commissioner and me, I normally don't mind using this method, but right now I have about 5 or 6 sketches of people who either wanted something and lost interest or never got back, and I'm not about to go hunt people down to ask them if they want stuff anymore or not.
I hate having to pile up unpaid to-dos and expect people to get back at me, I really don't want to think people are playing me for a fool, but this has to stop:
From now on I'll be taking PAYMENT UP FRONT before I do any work, I'm sorry it has to come to this.

I understand >: I am still working with the first method and got a couple of them dodging notes...it's frustating. Just when you think you have to trust in them because they trust in you....geez

Nobody should be complaining about payment up front for the quality of work you put out.

Payment up front is perfectly reasonable. ^^ I use the same system, as do others without any trouble I've seen.

Im surprised you weren't already doing cash upfront, in regards to your commissions.

Uhhhgh, lame dude... err, I mean, that people are doing that to you. |:/ I don't get why people can't just say they change their mind or what... makes me suspicious that they just want the sketch, you know? But yeah, I can't blame you. \:I

Every commission I got so far worked this way (except

You have an established reputation by now and a gallery chalked full of your work. expecting payment up front is perfectly reasonable at this point.

Can't say I'd be butt hurt. I expect commissions to work that way. Rather, I'm surprised when I'm NOT asked for money up front.
