Depression-PLEASE LISTEN
Please listen to this man talk. He explains the personal struggle of depression very well.

He brings up two points that I want to emphasize.
1.) Many call suicide a selfish act. IT IS NO SUCH THING! To the depressed person, they are doing the world a favor by killing themselves. When I mess up, I take it very personally because I had a negative impact on the world. My personal mantra that gets repeated is "Fuck Me", and I'll go on repeat for a quite while after something happens...DO NOT call it selfish, please.
2.)STOP POSTING the "think happy thoughts", "cheer up", "here's a kitty, smile" MOTIVATIONAL SHIT. Those sort of things only make the person with depression feel worse. It is not just sadness, it's deeper than that, and not only do those posts not help, they just make the person feel worse. PLEASE think twice before re-posting that material...
Also, just because someone is smiling, does NOT mean that they are happy, it's actually really easy to put on the face. The thing that cannot be hidden is the eyes. If you are worried about someone, look them in the eyes, only then can you see their true emotional state...
Again, please take the time out of your day to listen and try to understand the illness of depression, thank you, and have a good day.

Would the world be better off without me had I gone through with my suicide attempt 8 years ago?
I for one am glad I chickened out, or I would have missed out on the life I am loving now.
Yes I agree depression and thoughts of suicide are VERY real, But you're also asking not to make any attempt to cheer the depressed person up, so what do you suggest? Pretend that person is not even there? How the hell is that supposed to help?
I am very glad that you did not go through with the attempt, I have seen many of the smiles you have put on people's faces both online and in person, and how you've brightened their day, and I thank you very much for doing so.
I did not mean ignore the person completely. My rant was meant as a warning against just re-posting a cookie-cutter "Be happy because ___" that won't do much to free the person from their own thoughts. That if you really want to make someone with Depression happier, do so on a personal level. A personal message, even a simple "Good Morning" can mean so much when you're mulling through the tar of dark thoughts.
I am very sorry if my post above offended you in any way or was not very clear at first on these points. I still was not thinking perfectly clear after listening to the audio clip.
I agree, nobody can "just cheer up" as it just doesn't work that way. Unfortunately there are those out there where if I make any attempt to direct their thoughts to something more positive, they become just as determined to keep their thoughts in the gloom and doom mode they have become so accustomed to. And since I'm no way a mental health professional, I pretty much hit a dead end as to how I can help them redirect their thoughts to a more positive sense on life.
If it wasn't for Furries, I probably would have been finished by now....
