Furry cons. Tapping out.
Much as i enjoy the fandom for its artwork, I'm starting to realize that going to furry cons just isn't my thing. For the artist friends, it's a good opportunity to meet old and new friends and justify the trip by recouping the costs in the dealer room. This also means that nights are spent in the hotel room catching up on comissions. I definitely enjoy their company. Just not sure about the need to go to cons, since I'm not that prolific an an artist.
So what does this mean? Further Confusion will be my last con for a few years. That said, I acknowledge that half of the reason I don't enjoy cons as much is that I'm not a good artist, and never took comissions. My friends - like most artists in the fandom, are pretty level headed. They wouldn't do this if they didn't have good reasons to justify it.
I will start taking comissions at home - perhaps 1 or 2 a month until I can get into a system. Hopefully that might get me more comfortable with taking requests, and force me to draw more.
It's not the cons fault that I don't enjoy them, so perhaps the best thing to do is come back to them once I can do more in them.
Hoping this goes through, as I'm typing on an iPhone. Will drop comission details once I talk to my friends about it.

You have people backing you and that's an important start in itself.
You already know my stance on all this so it doesn't have to be repeated.
You pretty much nailed it. I still want to see all of you and have a great time - the cons make it hard for artists to do that without taking so much time away from getting work done. I figure that if if I'm to go to cons at all, then I'd better get a dealer table like the rest of you and take commissions.
That said, I hear you and ScullyRaptor know
Please do abduct me. I want to share another cold one with ya!
But yeah go on and take some commisons man. Your skilled enugh to do so especaly your coloring.
I actually saw Trump at Radio Comix's table, so yeah, I can understand why you might need to attend the fur cons. That said, AVP could have a satellite table - purchase a table for a furry artist that works for AVP, with supporting graphics and promo material. That way, you don't have to go and still represent AVP at the fur cons.
But yeah, I'm going to try commissions to improve overall skills, get faster, plus keep from getting rusty. :)
Thanks, Netasha. I'm going to try this time - commissions might help me get motivated. I was inspired by all we did at FC, and now I need to try enjoying drawing time at home. Further, you two need to kidnap me whenever possible for an art jam. Maybe Aura would go for a weekend, too?
