Rocky Mountain Fur Con 2014 is over…
… and it was a blast!
Hey everyone! It’s EagleTheCheetah, your new Director of Marketing! I just wanted to take some time to thank you all for making RMFC 2014 the successful, amazing convention that it was. While our hard-working staff build the foundation for fun every year, ultimately it is you, our attendees, who make it a blast. I wanted to share some numbers from 2014, as we really climbed some high peaks this year. Because of you, we grew by an unfathomable 35%—our largest increase since 2008. We had 303 fursuiters, compared to 200 last year. Through our charity auctions, casino night, and donations, we raised an incredible $5,000 for our charity, Freedom Service Dogs. Beyond that, your participation has solidified RMFC as one of the top 10 furry conventions in the world!
I would also like to thank our Guests of Honor, ShinigamiGirl and whiteyfawks for participating in the festivities. I bow to our tireless staff members and volunteers who give their all to make this event as enjoyable as it is; clearly, it paid off.
On a more personal note, I also wanted to thank everyone for the incredible welcome I received during closing ceremony’s announcement. I want you all to know that I will do everything during my tenure to ensure that you all have your ideas considered. It’s one thing for a person like me to attempt to crunch numbers, look at marketing trends, and forecasts. That’s only part of it. My job is to figure out what is going to make next year’s convention even better, and in my experience, nothing is going to have a bigger impact than wading into the reservoir of creativity that is the furry fandom, and it would be foolish for us not to use that resource to its fullest potential. So with next year’s nostalgic Game Shows theme in mind, if you have any ideas whatsoever, please send them my way, at:

Thank you all again, and see you in 2015!

I did have fun though dont get me wrong, mainly with some conversations I had with other artists and I did get some photos and met some furs from out of state who were cool to talk with. Didnt make friends with them, but got to talk with some and ended up getting a few hugs.
I would love to go again, though next time I go I must not go alone, I need some sort of tail or something, and I might suggest a lot more chairs and places to sit down, especially in the rooms, a lot of the panel rooms were way too small or under seated. I had no drama which was nice, but apparently there was a lot of drama and some drunken incidents. I got way too tired from being on my feet all day with the weight I was holding, but was also a little disappointed in the activities for furs to do. I wasnt the only one there and could suggest more ideas for next time if the opportunity surfaces.
My room was in front of the pool, so I did not get a chance a chance to sit and watch people like others did, but they all seemed to have fun doing so and got lots of good photos from that. Lots of positive energy around.
Overall it was okay, and I say okay because it was my first con and I was alone, so I missed out on the full experience. The only issue I had a problem with was trying to make friends and talking with people as most seemed very unresponsive or ignored and remained in their little group. I did talk to quite the few furs yes, though we did not make friends as it was just common casual conversation and that was very nice to meet some furs who talked. I blame myself though for lacking tails, ears, or other furry articles to show I was a furry.
So I would like to go to the con again next year, perhaps not in disguise as some artists recognized me from ten years ago from being online. It was very pleasant and wish i could have made it to the dealers den earlier to get the right tail for myself, but that place was packed so like everyone got in there and got all the good stuff right away.
Art show was cute, the fundraising could have gone a little better, I noticed the walkers were a bit unorganized going around asking for donations, trying to use some fursuiters to help out, so perhaps a benefit show next time or small benefit event other then the casino to help out, or someone to help them gain more donations as they seemed like fish out of the water walking around asking for donations. Some of the hotel staff seemed a little annoyed, other guests were a slight bit confused, but no one caused too much trouble other then breaking the elevator and a couple of drunks and a stalker at an artists table.
Despite the fact that I myself did not have a thrilling time, the vast majority of the furs did and have tons of great stories to share with everyone about the experience. I do not wish to sound negative or downplay anything as I myself had a nice time, to the point I am still recovering from the experience physically, but I do offer my view point in great detail so that if you do a first con event again, perhaps may I suggest someone to go around introducing the con goers around or giving them a tour so they could at least meet furs as the whole single meet and greet thing was too small and there was not a lot of time for that this year (it was suggested next year to get a bigger room).
Again, dont let my down sounding introduction take away from the experiences of the majority. There was a lot of cute fun, lots of cute and fun suiters, and of course tons of adorable actions, one of which I got to record. I may have had an okay time, but I still got to have fun and was sad I had to leave and it is fun to see all the photos people have posted online. But lots and lots of furs had lots and lots of fun.
Oh one final thing I did happen to notice, though being ignored as I was, it did not gain attention from the special ops working, was the fact that there was some drug dealing going on throughout the con and I did not approve of this at all. I did try to bring it to the attention of at least three special ops officers (the guys in the red shirts) though they said they would keep an eye out or brushed me aside. Drugs specifically that were present, Acid, Ecstasy, Weed, and angel dust. Possibly pills, but I did not hear that directly. A few suiters were dealing in their suits to hide them, a few did so at the dance in the darkness, some did so at the brick wall, some went up to their rooms and this disturbed me since the number of younger furs at this con was a lot. I do not do or deal with drugs myself, but I did want to bring up this specifically due to minors. Of course lots of furs brought beer to their room for some casual drinking, though they did not go around on the floor trying to deal, sell, or share. I know this because i was offered a few times due to my disguised appearance. I do not have names, but I do know someone in a black fursuit was dealing on friday at the dance, was difficult to see, but they were talking about ecstasy and had some hidden in their hand gloves. There was a dealer outside with a black rabbit rubber mask lurking around selling acid and angel dust, this one was not too close to the hotel and I suspect this one heard about the con and was wearing a mask to attract furs to deal with. I do not remember seeing this individual inside of the hotel, but he did lurk around it both friday and saturday. With weed, that one was of course the most popular, the idea of colorado being legal I think attracted a lot of weed sharing. Pills I had only heard around through ear from other furs, that someone named sparks was giving them out before the rave.
i apologize for the long post, but tried to sum up some things as best I could. Again, tons of furs had a huge blast and great time, but to further improve the con, I want to give my experience with the things I saw and the experience I had. After all if a furcon is a great place to meet furry friends, then it helps to know how people act and react and would help to take measures so no one feels ostracized or ignored by staff members who stated it is very easy to make friends. That gives furries a bad image and being around for over fifteen years myself, that is something I find discouraging to see in this newer generation. The drug thing I bring up to warn you and others of some dark dealings; if you have children then keep yourself near them and such activities.
The greatest and funnest part was just seeing suiters interact with one another. I used to be in theater myself and it brought back a lot of fun memories, making me desire to dress up in costume or a fursuit myself and also goof around. Such joys and sights to see at this RMFC and I do hope that this lengthy, but insightful description will ultimately help make next years RMFC even bigger, funner, and much safer. I look forward to going again and will do my best to get there/
I hope to go one year
Someday I want to stay longer Like Fri & Sat
Sometime I needs to get every single con book you has made
