Rule 34, Popular Characters, and Proportions

Rule 34 disturbs me...and I don't do it...why?
Because ruining a beloved franchise that has nothing to do with porn whatsoever, WITH porn, strikes me as...really dumb. And whenever I look at it, I can't get over the fact that I know the REAL deal is NOTHING like that. It bothers me to all hell when people take popular characters and twist them into something rather perverted, it speaks a lot about that person...especially when you put it to a kid's show...(I'm looking at you bronies, you sick fucks)
So this is why, I don't ever draw something from a popular TV show or something in a "rule 34" situation, because it's just wrong. It makes me feel like I'm defaming somebody else's work, and it's why I just stick to coming up with my own works of art that come from MY head, that I can feel free to do whatever with because I created them.

Now, moving on to the "Popular Characters" segment. I cannot stand...one bit...people who have a popular character that "belongs to them" smeared all over every art website I come across...and yet that person has done NO work of their own character, and have really no artistic ability whatsoever, instead relying on everyone around them to make their character famous for them. That strikes me as cheating, big time, and it makes it harder for people like me who come up with shit on their own to become even the slightest bit noticed or appreciated. If you came up with some ice dragon person and you want to lay "claim" to that thing, you better have drawn SOMETHING to show for it if you want to plaster that character all over an art website, because as far as I'm concerned, you're just clogging up the place like it's a forum with shit you didn't do, and it's a waste of space for those who will actually put real work into it. Hell even if it's a fucking stick figure drawing of your fursona or character, show some fucking work for it, if you wanna show that THAT particular person belongs to YOU, then you better draw it motherfucker!
--
And now...proportions.
I've taken to drawing much more curvy and full figured characters, I draw what I like, I draw the things that I like. Clearly I like curvy girls (but i have my limits).
Some people just don't have limits...and that's disturbing to me. I know the furry community and the internet in general is a bottomless hovel for everyone to post their poop fetishes on, but jesus fucking christ guys, show a BIT of restraint, someone is gonna see that someday and YOU are gonna have to answer for it!
That said, I cannot STAND it when people draw curvy or full figured characters, with thin shoulders, a thin abdomen, and RIDICULOUSLY wide hips. It bothers me a lot, mainly because when I learned to draw, the most basic rule I learned about females in particular, is that you don't draw them with their hips wider than their shoulders (except on rare, very disturbing situations...ones that I refuse to emulate).
So to be clear everyone:

For popular characters...I can't help you on that. Honestly, if a person came up with the character, but is not good to draw it, then how is it cheating when the person came up with said character like in D&D or any other table top. Some people can draw and some can't. As a matter of fact, some love to bring characters to life and the creator loves it. I have friends that i drew for them a character they made and they love it.
for proportions its all up to the artist themselves. if you want an accurate body then that is up to you bud. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE has their vision and style of what the body looks like. Most of them use references, anatomy books, and their imagination as to what they should be like. I myself like a bit of realism to someone who likes cartoony. Sure if a female has hips wider than the shoulders means that is what the character has. like you said it is rare, but not uncommon in real life. Hell I keep wondering why the hulk has big feet and calves and a slightly shorter lower legs than longer ones.
I understand that you don't like these things, but that is your opinion. Not everybody thinks like you. Also if it wasn't for the wonky, funky, big bodied, ridiculous waisted, three toed, four dicked, fan loving, sexual humping, 12 winged, feral minded, and creature created furries and humans on this and any other site. Then there is no creativity in the world. Yeah some stuff is over the top if not gruesome, but that is the reason why others avoid it if they can.
Second on the popular characters bit, I designate it as "cheating", because I hacks like me who actually have the ability to draw, do it, and are usually drowned out by people who have their characters drawn by someone with talent, like me, leaving the people who are like me who refuse to sell themselves out to hide, undiscovered by the majority. And that's fine, it's why i designated this as a hobby, nothing more, because there's nothing more frustrating than someone who "pays to win".
For proportions, yea, I'm aware it's the artist's style, but there's a lot of things you can't pin on style, just like cultural differences.
And again, yes, it's my opinion, that's why I posted this on my own page and not somebody elses.
Though from what I see how you are feeling about this, then you really should not get upset if you aren't willing to help those who can't draw. A good majority of viewers are unable to draw with those that write. Also nobody " pays to win". Artists that charge for their art are not winning anything but are more often than not asked how much they charge if someone wants to buy art from them. Others will do it for free and they will be called upon to do more.
Also like I stated before, proportions are what YOU make of them. Saying what is right and what is wrong with someone's drawing style or creation is a bit mean. In that case then famous artists and creators from cartoons and anime shouldn't have been hired for characters with big boobs and ridiculous thin bodies. On that note I don't think cultural differences have any part in how a person can draw.
Finally, when you posted the journal, you have made your opinion known to other watchers, like me, to be read and see how you feel on the topic of discussion. Some will read it and some will not, but please understand that it is for all to see, record, and technically use against you.
I'm not trying to tell you not to state how you feel, but it will hurt those that you have said "cheated" in the sense they can not draw.
So, to focus on the "cheating" bit, we have to look at it from a different standpoint. It's like a free to play game, you have yourself some good loot for your load out, and you try your best, but someone else always manages to outdo you, in a cheap and "easy" way, because that person sprung real money to get better look than you did. Boy that's annoying isn't it? Its not really cheating because its all part of the game, if you want to get better, you have to shell out real money to make yourself better, not by your own skill, but by taking the easy way out. What does that make you? A cheater? A quitter? A wimp?
So, when I say that, I'm sick of seeing people with characters like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13238960/
Or this:http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9334035/
(Which are both well known characters) get a free ride into fame just because their owners shelled out hundreds of dollars to make them famous, and yet NEVER draw their own characters themselves, strikes me as a pay to win aspect. A low-road, underhanded tactic, that makes getting known in this wonderful community, as easy as paying someone to do it for you.
Its different if the person who can't draw, gets a commission anyway, just to have something to look at, and just yo have his own page. But this is an art site...ART...for people to submit and share their work! This is where I personally submit my work, and yes, I have lots of watchers, but despite the amount of work I submit, I rarely get activity in the form of comments or favorites. Sure some pics will net me like...10 favorites. Then you have the people who had Meesh draw their character, post someone else's art on their page and they are awash in love and admiration. That, is unfair, and its cheap.
Which is why, again, my art is now strictly a hobby. Yea, I'll pay for a commish or do gifts, but because I want to, not because I want to sell myself out. I still have a soul, and I still have the balls to make my own work on my own, because I'm not some talentless hack. I drew everything on my page myself (or edited it) and I'm proud to say it. I have REAL talent, but at this point, getting noticed is impossible without me giving up countless amounts of money to become famous.
So fuck it, I'll spend my money on bigger things, like my truck, or bills...or video games.
Fox-Gear is famous because his character is featured everywhere you look but he never drew any of that crap himself...a talentless fursons with lots of money...like Nicki Minaj.
Some people are good enough artists that others will pay them for their work. Other people like their characters so much that they throw down the big bucks to get them drawn.
I'm sorry that makes you feel sad and victimized by people who "cheat." But, not to put a fine point on it, what business do you have telling other people what to do with their cash or their talent? It's their damn choice. If you don't like it... well, you can sit there being pissed off, or you can get over it. The rest of the fandom will keep doing what they're doing regardless, because they really don't care what you or I or anybody except themselves thinks.
So one way or another, you're the only one affected by all this vitriol. You may as well drop it and get on with your life. That's all I'm saying.
But to each their own I guess.
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm not saying you're right. I'm saying that you're basically the only person who cares what you think, so the only person your anger/jealousy will ever actually effect... is you. So why hang onto it?
For your example, if the player really wanted that stuff to be better, then it's his or her prerogative. If they have the money then can buy better gear and not work for it. Though it won't make them any better than others in the game.
The same for the people on this site. People who came up with the concept of a character are artists in their own right. They ask for artists to draw their characters that they cherish, and will pay for them done. When that happens, the artist will either post the character and let others that had followed them know where the IDEA came from. Or either give the art to the creator (the talentless person you've mentioned) so that they will post the character with their back story and mention the artist that did it for them.
There is no paying hundreds of dollars to make their character famous. Others furs like the character so much that they will want to draw them or chat with said creator to see if they will make more. Mostly it is about luck when being discovered and something that you shouldn't be upset at. I myself don't get many faves or comments about my stuff, but should i get mad when i see those that don't draw getting comments not only on their page but from artist's side as well? Not really cause they are likely to say stuff about the piece whether porn or not.
for the "SELLING OUT" part, why is loving what you do and getting paid for it called that? you are doing something that you love and are getting paid to do so and everyone is happy. you are pretty much doing a JOB. If you draw and are willing to do what people ask, and it's is something you don't mind to doing it is , by no means, selling out....like Robert Downey Jr. From the way you sounded, people doing ANYTHING for money is selling out. thus countering your own argument.
I feel you are being a bit obnoxious in assuming that this site is for only those that do art. It is a place where furries (both human and non) to come and enjoy being in a community that accepts them for who they are. Also art has many forms from architecture and so on. those who write to make the reader see the world in their eyes.......art. Those who can make a compelling character.....ART. Those " talentless hacks" you keep talking about are ARTIST cause they have the creative mind to design a character and ASKING if someone as talented as you or me or even wolfynail to draw for them and paying them for bringing their character to life while at the same time CREDITING each other.
Cause without the thought or idea from either THERE IS NO ART
What about you then? Obviously you draw on your own, you're pretty talented yourself. Why should someone who doesn't put in the hard work it takes to make something tangible get ahead of someone like you or me who actually practice to make something real. How would it feel to know you spent hours just practicing on something like anatomy to know that you're being blocked out by people who contribute nothing.
I'm not talking about people who get one or two commissions. I'm not talking about story writers or music composers or the people who just take pictures of themselves. I'm talking about people who do NOTHING but submit other ppls work to get famous. How is that fair to people who actually try?
You just don't get it do you?
