Roller Coaster Top 10 - 2014 Update
General
Since my trip to New England (Six Flags New England, Lake Compounce, Quassy) was so successful and introduced me to several incredible rides, it's about time I update my top 10 to reflect that. I'll add a little commentary this time, to give just a bit of insight as to why the ride is where it is on my list.
10) White Lightning / Fun Spot America / Great Coasters International / Wood / Out and Back
-Still my favorite here in Orlando, this ride pack so much into a small footprint and is very well paced. Bonus points for the double up into double down.
9) Thunderhead / Dollywood / Great Coasters International / Wood / Twister
-For similar reasons to White Lightning, I love this ride. It's wild, it's fast, and it's extremely well-paced. Just tons of FUN.
8) Millennium Force / Cedar Point / Intamin / Steel / Gigacoaster
-Tall, fast, and one hell of a rush. It's extremely smooth and features some decent airtime, but really this ride is all about speed and adrenaline. My only issue is the pacing, but still worth a long wait to enjoy.
7) Storm Runner / Hersheypark / Intamin / Steel / Accelerator
-I knock some launched coaster for being too short, and some for being too long. Storm Runner is the Goldilocks of your typical launched coasters. it's not too long, and not too short. Just right. All-in-all one hell of an adrenaline rush featuring some serious hangtime and an insane element called the flying snake dive.
6) Montu / Busch Gardens Tampa / B&M / Steel / Inverted
-Do inverted coasters get better than this? Such variance in elements, extreme positive-Gs and definitely the best corkscrew inversion on any ride I've been on. Sit in the back for the best experience, especially on the batwing element.
5) Kumba / Busch Gardens Tampa / B&M / Steel / Looping
-Not much to say here, other than the positive-Gs on this ride are extreme and the pacing leave no room to take a breath. The zero-G roll is more like a tornado trying to throw you off than the floaty element most rides have. Just a fucking monster. Listen to it roar.
4) Maverick / Cedar Point / Intamin / Steel / Blitz
-Not your typical launched coaster, more like someone took all the crazy ideas they had for multiple different rides and pasted them together. Airtime, speed, intensity, and out-of-control pacing. Awesome, awesome ride.
3) Bizarro / Six Flags New England / Intamin / Steel / Hypercoaster
-Wow, this one was a bit of a surprise. Many enthusiasts talk bad of this ride in recent years, but my experiences on it were absolutely incredible. The airtime is insane and topped only by El Toro. The speed hill after the overbanked turn is such a great element as well. Love it. TAKE THE TUNNEL!
2) Boulder Dash / Lake Compounce / Custom Coaster International / Wood / Terrain
-I've had this ride described to me as a wild, out of control ride through the woods. That is exactly what it is. Relentlessly paced and incredibly intense, this ride is everything The Beast wishes it could be. This ride has a fucking triple up. A triple up. My goodness.
1) El Toro / Six Flags Great Adventure / Intamin / Wood / Out and Back
-This ride is fucking insane. The airtime is absolutely bonkers. This ride blows me away every time I've been on it. I commonly laugh hysterically when it hits the ending brakes because it's just so, so awesome.
