Deco Blue Prismacolor Pencils

HEY all, I'm looking to buy Deco Blue Prismacolor Pencils from anyone who might not want them anymore. They were discontinued some years back and I am finally running out of my stockpile. It's one of my staple pencils that I always reach for and I will be very sad when I am finally out.

What are those for?
I mean, do they have some special qualities like cleaner trait, better color, etc?

They are just a color that I like and use a lot! I like the way that particular pigment layers and blends. I use it a lot in blue eyes, for example, to get a nice glow.

Yeah, I only have one and its half used. I will keep my eyes out looking for that color, I visit alot of eclectic art shops that might still have it around.

DO you have a pure sample of the color, because I feel some of their new colors might be very similar, though I also assume you have the ones as well.

I have all the new colors, and yeah, sadly none of them have the same pigment properties.

Nothing is like it, trust me. I can get along without it but it's not just the way it looks, it's the way it acts, much like the difference between pigments in watercolor.

I see. I can understand that, I know Blick pencils are wax based as well....

Though I had never heard of a deco blue from prisma until today, so there is that.

I was thinking that as well. But I think she is wanting to stick to this color because even the new color that is "close" seems just slightly off

Only thing I can think of is PC 919 or PC 904

The way it layers and glows through subsequent lazes of color is what is hard to replicate. I've been using this particular pencil in my work for 20 years, so changing my technique is difficult. Eventually I will have to, unless they bring it back! I hope they do. c:

Well, the problem is that our eyes see.....around a million distinct colors, so even with colors that are suppose to be the same color, I sometimes notice very subtle differences.

I have two (well, one and a half), but I'm certainly not parting with them now. . . *guards*

Heck yeah keep 'em close, use sparingly! It sucks so much they retired them.

I did pretty good stretching my stash for 7-8 years. Same with Deco Aqua...I will run through my few remaining pencils in a couple years, I'm sure.

Sounds like me and my supply of Rotring Artist's Colour that I've been hoarding over the years. It's Murphy's Law of Art Supplies. When you find something you've decided is your essential artmaking tool, whether it's a pencil, paint, or paper, it will be discontinued.

Yeah, I shop there often. These pencils have been retired for about 7 years now, so finding them online is very difficult.

thats one of the two things that frustrate me about prismas, when they discontinue colors. the other is when you buy a set and you get like 20 blues but only 5 reds.

Have you checked amazon? Sometimes they sell things like that. It's worth a try. If not, I hope you find one!

I'm afraid I can not help you and I work in an art supply store. I was never a big user of the Deco colors especially since it was rumored in the art material industry that they weren't as lighfast as folks would prefer. UV clear coat can help but it was a source concern with some folks.

I left my prismacolor set in L.A. Because I stopped using them years ago, and just dug through them and found a deco blue and aqua you can have. :) i can't promise the leads aren't unbroken, in the past I have had chunks come off in the middle of sharpening. Will you be at FC?
