I may not be able to help very much. But I had a similar situation happen with my own OC Shaze. Copyrighting is a pretty easy process, and can be quite intimidating if you explain to the ones who stole your characters the penalties of using YOUR characters without permission.

A Google account, of course.

Make sure you and the artist both report their profiles for impersonation.

Make that person your bitch, and make that person realize that stealing stuffs are bad!

Same thing has happened to me, on multiple occasions. I try to be nice about it, but it is frustrating, doubly so because I actually try to DISTANCE my characters from, certain things within the fandom. Useually I can talk people out of using my characters, but two to three new offenders always seem to pop up in their place.

They're using Google+. I'm surprised anyone noticed.

Unfortunately, this person is not only using your character Myrl, but also actively distributing other people's characters to 3rd parties in a G+ group calling itself "Furry RP Club", for them to claim as their own and use in RP. Worse still, the Admin of that group created the group specifically for that purpose and actively endorses it in the group, and will block/ban anyone from the group who tries to tell them to cease and desist. This does not surprise me. It's the biggest reason why I am extremely tight-lipped about my OCs.

You may take their bodies, but you will never take THEM.

I believe I mentioned someone else using her on a website called Chatango though. I've been reporting most people who do it to get the account removed though.

It happens more often than not, on F-list where i used to RP a lot on, i could easily say 80% of not more "borrow" artwork for representation of their characters.
Whether they reference the artist or not is a 50/50

Now mostly they dont actually claim to be the characters of the artists, they make their own individual characters with the art as a reference.

Of course, im not saying its right of them to do this, they should ask, but lets be honest here, socially awkward furs, how hard will it be for them to ask something as weird as ''i really like your character can i borrow your art''

Uhmm, overall though, this shouldnt be made a public journal.
You should go to the website in question and ask them nicely to stop using your character, and if that doesnt work, contact the admins / report for using your identity.
Making stuff like this public only opens them up to be harassed by random people, which isnt very nice, even if what theyre doing is wrong.

I admit I use Myrl appearances as inspiration for my Shark character Mirage's appearances but the character has a different name and my own personality and has her own clothing style etc and some differences. Completely taking and using ones character into becoming your own without the owners consist is sad. Also Google Plus sucks xD

Report them as impersonating you with the report system. I've noticed a lot of underage kids have been stealing characters to have underage sex with people, it's freaking vile.

That's just sad, truly it is. I mean stealing another artist character and trying to use as their own that brings anyone to a boiling point to hit them. *sigh* and for RP why are there so many thieves in the art world.

This is just sad. I mean, I understand taking a character idea or a species created by someone, but somebody's character? I will never understand people.
