Post Furnal equinox report
Well where to begin.
Firstly this was the last convention for FE as Concom IE. Staff that I will be doing. After 6 years of doing the behind the scenes convention lead up and double duty its enough and I need to relax and enjoy the con in the future.
When one does a convention helping, one will never have any real sleep, and has to deal with any little fires, or issues that come around. We that are staff work alot of hours before the convention and during the convention. Lets just say that working from Sunday before to the Monday after is a long stretch at times, The con for us starts months before as we get everything done to lead up and make sure its all ready to go. Then at the Con on the Thursday is when the magic is being worked on and setup. Long hours before, long hours from 8am to sometimes 10-11pm and more after to finalize the day (Registration reconciliation of the days always takes time) . Lots to do that we sometimes forget to actually eat, and the sleep is horrid lol, lucky to get 4-5 hours during the night as you have to think about what has gone, and what happen.
Don't get me wrong, its always fun at the con, seeing all the faces that come around, the new ones, the first ones, the ones that have been here since the beginning, and even the children that come in and marvel at it all. Its always nice to see. :)
Every convention has its ups and downs, and ever year its always different. We can only deal with so many and I think convention goers forget that we are not paid for what we do for the convention and don't deserve any ire that comes up. Things can and will go wrong, and its how we react that must be taken into consideration. So the next time you have alittle impatience about something, think about it this way. We poor little workers are only human/furry. We deserve alittle respect and not the ire of impatience. (Sorry for that rant, but it had to be said).
Every year that I have been doing this I have meet so many wonderful furs and so many wonderful friends that I wish to keep in contact with. Just because I am not doing things in the background, does not mean I won't be around. I have always been shy with others, and its taken time for me to allow myself to enjoy hugs. So if you wanted to hug me, you could always ask. ;)
The convention group that I have had the pleasure to work with has been wonderful. Its a hard thing to change those in charge, but its got a decent person that is going to help lead them, and this year others who are taking over were feeling out what its like to actually be the ones responsible. For the majority of the weekend it was a clear indication that things were going well enough.
Everything that was told to us and thought of for changes will be taken in and used to make the following years better. It has always been that way.
So the numbers were again: 1051 Attendee's, over 285 fursuiters in the parade (This does not mean total fursuiters at the convention, that number easily almost adds another 100), we raised with the kindness of all the furry's over (yes dragon ball z reference) 9000 for the charity.
This number is significant in that it means the first hotel Canadian furry con has broken the 1000 ceiling. :) Good job all.
So this is not a kinda rant/good/post con report I just want to say. Thank you all, thank you all the staff, and good luck in the future.
