You should make am IB. Seriously. The rep that it gets as an xyz site is stupid. It is legitimately by far the best most capable adaptable usable furry site. Not sure why people are making weasyls, I have one, tried it, didnt like it at all. The UI is cumbersome.

Thats a lie I do know why; It's because they spent a lot of energy propagating themselves as the "killer of FA".

Because I don't like what I find when I browse inkbunny, and I've heard poor things about the userbase's level of engagement from other artists.

I don't like that either though. There are many who don't. Well I know what you mean when you say browse. Random browsing returns a disproportionate amount of a particular subject matter. But keep in mind that of course that's going to be what youre going to see when it's been banned from every single other site for decades. Like that just seems obvious to me. Its disproportionate. It is quite a good site functionality-wise (LIVE UPDATES HOLY SHIT) it's like it's a website made not in the 90s like FA or in the DA days like Weasyl. Also I strongly disagree about engagement. When see Journals on IB, people tend to read them. I see a lot of responses from people who (right or wrong) care, and is generally a nice atmosphere. Furthermore, if you dont like ANYTHING on the site, just enter it as a banned keyword and youll never see it anywhere ever again. Simple! And extremely effective. If something has that tag in a pool or collection youre looking through, theyll just appear as blocked images but if you still want to see you just click.

I had the same reservations. I hear the exact same story from everyone who hasn't tried IB for any length of time and it's a self fulfilling and unfortunate situation. I just recommend trying the blocked keywords and generally using the site for a good bit before making a judgement call.

I understand what you're saying, I don't feel it's particularly forgivable. If I hide it, it's still there, even if I can't see it. My art may well end up next to it, and that's not something I want to do, period.

Sofurry has live updates as well. It's technically quite advanced, and has the upside of being much more writer-friendly (since it started as a writing website)

However, SoFurry doesn't have the audience that Weasyl has. I'm picking a site to cross-post to for the time being, see how it goes.

As for the audience thing... Isn't that the entire problem of FA that we're trying to get away from? I think we should focus on finding the best site. That way, the foundation will be sound. If everyone just goes to the technically best site (the site is the technology, after all), then I don't think audience will be a problem. We should try to make sure that the mentality of "because everyone else uses it" never happens again!
