MAJOR MAJOR Artist Rant!
(¯`·._.·(¯`·._.· One with the Hive ·._.·´¯)·._.·´¯) Ok so Ive written a few of these in the past months and never Actually submitted them.
Most of the time i just write them and feel better after writing it, and decide its not worth fussing over it with others just yet.
But enough is enough, im now at the point where i just cant take this shit anymore.
After My current batch of WIP Commissions/comics and art is over. I will Be Discontinuing Commissions altogether. (Which is pretty much as of now)
I am fucking sick and tired of hearing excuses from people i have Commissioned to do stuff for me. When i pay you to do something and you agree to it! YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO IT LIKE ITS A BINDING CONTRACT!
In my line of work, when i contact a business about trading goods, whether it be a phone call or Via Email, they reply within the hour or at least within the day Giving me a broken down time frame on when said goods will be delivered/completed. AND THEY ADHERE TO IT DESPITE HOW BUSY THEY ARE!
In this community we have here, There is absolutely nothing more stressful than investing thousands of hard earned dollars into projects that just never seem to get anywhere. Or investing thousands of dollars into someone, And having to wait months if not years for a fucking reply. Days become months, then years and still nothing! I do not understand why it takes so long to get answers or results. This may come as a harsh thing to say but When it comes to business I don't care That you have sore eyes, I don't care That you have a Convention next month, i do not care that you mother has passed away. I have paid you to to do something for me and I'm still fucking waiting! If the world ran business like the artists i have had to deal with recently....nothing would ever get done. EVER!
Look, i can be Friendly and sympathetic towards everything that happens in life... that same shit happens to me so we can all relate...I have Rheumatoid Arthritis for fuck sake! But i still have to plough on ahead. If i dwell on shit...I'd most likely be homeless with no job.
I am fucking over it well and truly. What makes it worse! is whenever i bring up the issue, they go on the defensive as if its my fault! AAAGHHHH!!!!!!!
Artists need to learn to have more fucking respect to their paying commissioners. We are customers! and so we deserve to have the correct treatment/Customer service. I understand there are Queues and other life priorities. But 1 year...2 years....and even my Onefurall fursuit! 3 fucking years!?!? No that's just pure Neglect and Procrastination. Nothing takes that long... Not even Constructing a high rise building takes that long....and if you know in the back of your head that it will? you should not be accepting payments.
However There are those handful of people in this community that i wholeheartedly trust. There is nothing more gratifying than making friends with artists and people that do the right thing by their customers. And they are people who i would definitely spend more time with on projects here and there.
But as of now I am done. No more. I quit. I will not longer play "Farse" with Artists.
Thankyou.

A few years ago, i didn't mind waiting a few months. But its gotten to the stage now where I'm Nagging a lot more to others because of it. and its not fair on them.
put simply such an act by anyone is called theft.
Ive been very close to this as a result of the bullshit Ive put up with many artists.
Im still trying to be patient and understanding, but sometimes, I just think its not worth it anymore.
Its nice to try and be the friendly type...but it gets you nowhere.
I think all payments should be done this way. there is too much "Lax" with the current ways.
ATTENTION ARTISTS - MY Terms for Accepting Commissions from Me.
If I commission you to do any kind of art of MY character which is copyright to ME and you accept my commission AND payment from me, then you must agree that I have complete freedom to display the art in ANY medium both public or private under the following terms:
1) I will NOT change or alter the art in ANY way.
2) I will NOT profit or allow any other party to profit monetary gain from the art.
3) If displayed on any website I will always give credit to the artist who did the art work.
Once commission and payment is accepted by the artist, these terms are non negotiable and considered aggreed upon by the artist.
Plain and simple. If you can not or will not agree to these terms then don't accept my commission or my money.
And BTW, I had the same problem you are having with the same person. MINE took 4 years and many complaints and threats of legal action. Furthermore , by the time I got it, my measurements changed and it didn't fit right. I had to pay someone else to alter it.
sadly this shit is way to common with furs.
Explains why furs are often such a mess.
in 2010 i payed a half deposit ($800) for a suit with
In 2012 I payed a deposit ($1800) for a suit with
I have had the WORST luck with obtaining a Fursuit.
As for artwork, I've shifted to using the FA forums to find artists to commission. The artists that look for commission offers on there are actually wanting work, and as such, they perform their work in a decent manner. They aren't those big name artists who expect everybody to just throw money at them as soon as they open & lose respect for their customers.
And if someone else jumps on the bandwagon and hijacks it, OH WELL.
Rate an artist:
1. Output. How many pieces of art do they put out a year?
2. Medium. Is it traditional media, like clay or glass? Is it textile, or 3D-modeling? Or is it paint? Or just painttool SAI?
3. How many commissions have they taken, and how many of them are successfully completed as of NOW?
4. How much do they charge, in comparison to other artists of similar output and working medium? (straight numbers comparison here. I am NOT the art-police.)
5. How long of a wait time have they had in the past? verified commissioners, with posted artwork to prove they got a commission from said artist.
6. How happy are their commissioners? (Scale of 1-20, with a description box for comments no longer than 200 characters.)
7. Have they had to issue refunds? If so, how many in the last 18 months?
It's a shame there is enough of the community that is involved in poor or misleading business practices to ruin things for so many as there is a lot of talent even in lesser known that gets missed because of the above.
Good luck to you though.
I used to have a problem with art deadlines a few years ago, and it makes me sick to think I used to make people wait even two months, or more, for finished pieces. I spent so much time practicing my speed, and only recently has it increased to a level I'm happy with ^^
I think I'm just gonna stick to small or detailed one page commissions if anything ^^' Since I don't wanna experience the same things that you or anybody else on this journal have.
The people I've commissioned so far have been fantastic, every one of them kept me up to date with it and some even finished the commission within the hour or paying, which was really impressive~ It's just a shame good artists like these are mixed in a big bucket with all the slow/bad ones.
you are one of the Few i really Adore.
Your Art is still being perfected. But your service is beyond amazing.
I have a lot of respect for you.
I think the best way to handle this kind of thing would be a contract, not just a tos. A back-and-forth between an artist and commissioner detailing the terms of agreement (for expensive commissions, anyway). If one side starts to violate, the contract specifies punishments: if a commissioner is late on their payment, they owe a fee; if an artist is late on their piece, they owe a discount. If one side refuses, take 'em to small claims court. Yeah, sounds like a hassle, but I can guarantee it would weed out a ton of the artists causing these sorts of problems.
And as for me, i will still get the occasional thing here and there...but it wont be as extravagant as things before. and it will be lass often
if I could i'd stomp over to said artist's house and claw up their front door like a good pet is supposed to do,
this is why I only ever pay artists I know up front and the rest I wont even look at unless they are willing to take payment after or near completion of the commission.
its much more reliable
I'm an artist, I work for a living. My art provides food, shelter, utilities and the necessities of my life. I know what it's like to accept commissions, work for customers, and provide quality (to the best of my abilities) for the prices I offer.
It saddens me; I've commissioned very few folks, several are "bigger" names than I. One image for halloween last year (actually two small headshot badges of super easy to draw characters) and just recently past chirstmas I ordered two headshot badges from a different entity all together. Everyone else in BOTH cases got their art. Including a close friend of mine, AFTER I ordered my images. In both cases, here it is, april, and nothing.
I sent both parties MANY well written, detailed, thought out letters/emails/notes. Saying I was okay with waiting, but I wanted to check in/touch base/talk to them and just work something out.
I know what it's like to struggle with an "art block" or lack of motivation thanks to small boughts of "the sads". I know people are human and I'm certainly willing to talk to people about things. Maybe work out a refund, or SOMETHING.
Instead I'm simply ignored.
HELLO? YES? I AM ALSO AN ARTIST CAN WE NOT , YOU KNOW, TALK TO EACH OTHER?
If anyone 'could/should/would" understand some of your issues, WOULD BE ME.
Ugh, I just, It's sad to see man. I enjoy your character's design, I think he's super rad. I hope after a time away, you'll consider commissioning folks once more. <3
I do hope to see more of your commissions, even if they're few and far between.
