Yeah, That'll Work: A Review of FA's New Layout Beta
10 years ago
After reading some other reviews, I was worried FA was going to turn into SoFurry. That is, a broken mess that prioritizes looking good over usability. I returned to SF for a while during the peak of my drawing, but recently left again due to irreconcilable differences with the way SF handles text submissions (which is to say, it fucking doesn't). If FA were to start handling text in the same way as SF, that would absolutely be a dealbreaker for me.
But it doesn't look like it's going to, at least not yet, and that's fantastic. I didn't see a horizontal scroll bar the entire time I was using the beta, which is another problem I have with SF, but the FA beta at least resized and centered every picture I tested. I think it's dumb that "full size with scolling" is becoming a thing of the past, but at least I can see the whole fucking picture on FA (SF likes to give you the full size image, but disable scrolling so that the right half is cut off).
So, to reiterate, FA managed to make a modernized layout without pulling an SF and disabling half the site's features in the process. Good job, Fender.
