Sociology of Keranids

All in all they are pretty much over aged kids. Behaviour is compared to other species with a less active self perception[Ego]. Which makes them seem more like animals from the outside, especially because of their playful behaviour. They have less capability to be depressed, worried, jealous, full of hate, or fear. They are very emotional but in a sensory perceptive way. Yet their mind is built to filter out thoughts that put their mind in disarray. That said, emotion comes with reason.
To the outside they don't give out much of how they live, since no one goes through the forest, and no one except carriers of the Keranidae are allowed to interact directly with the inner circle of the clan.
They are hard wired to explore and research new things. It's their essence of being. They also love to play around, enjoying their existence and seem to be carefree all day. It's a challenging race which strives for new ways to find perfection in what they do, so they do races against each other, sparring, testing the limits of their mind, body, and spirit. They however don't sort out 'better' or 'weaker' ones, since the physiology is the same with every individual, and can be altered to fit every individual for what they enjoy best. For them the body is their own personal test chamber.
Keranids communicate telepathically to each other via the hive system and do not 'need' verbal communication, but do make sounds and have complex speech. They make many kinds of growling, yapping, snarly noises naturally, which makes them look rather cute in their natural environment. They are able to connect and act as a swarm, giving them the ability of collective thought throughout a group. This is very helpful on missions, and when researching in a group, which means they can also collectively process information if needed. Telepathy on Keranids is a closed system which works only between Keranids by standard.
Some of them have their own habits, but in general they sleep in groups, in a big pile of fluff. A few are awake, resting, and keeping an eye out for the rest. They prefer giant caves, or being underground while sleeping together. Those who do not sleep in a group are most likely in the forests that surround the clan. When they sleep they sleep for days to regenerate, going into a very deep coma like state.
Overall, Keranids are friendly, respect every life form for what it is, and see mostly the essence of beings, including possible talents and ideal forms. Keranids avoid conflicts if possible but never ever are submissive when it comes to offensive behaviour. A pissed off Keranid is like a child playing with dynamite, even if it takes a lot to get one on the bad side, it doesn't end well. But it rarely happens since they only react when assaulted, and even than they rather see it as a game before taking it serious.
If the case is that a Keranid is targeted with reason, and with the goat to kill by reason. Furthermore if one is killed by an outsider, the clan goes on a rampage, stopping everything they do to collectively erase what caused it. Eradicating the tree with its fruits and roots as a whole.
Their territory is off limits to most, and those who enter will be tested on their wisdom. The inner circle is forbidden to outsiders, and the forest is like a protective area and acts partly on its own. It is highly infected and is like a giant living and intelligent organism. If there is something of a haunted forest.. that's pretty much it.
Some Keranids work with outsiders, go wandering, exploring the world, and just collect information. They want to understand everything. From social build up to psychology, warfare, technology, and so on. Most of them prefer to be incognito, living a life that seems to be rather normal, conserving energy to sleep over weekends. Eating normal food, and take on different forms to blend in. Others act like animals, and blend in with nature. Striving through cities, acting as an observing eye. Looking not just for information, but for possibilities for evolution in the society. A few Keranids even take it on themself to train individuals to archive their ideals.
All structures are built by manipulating materials and nature, and within the clan there are generally no clothes worn. If it is worn, then it is for personal taste, or testing of armour, amulets, and devices.
Within the clan there doesn't exist a ranking or cast system. They don't have a king nor any rules in particular, rather a system which is there because it works and everyone take their role in the hive. Some switch roles, some don't. Overall there is no given role, rather than existing ones. Some even meditate for hundreds of years.
They don't have a religion or beliefs but do have a culture.
Their culture is the tradition to use only natural tools, no electronic devices. Buildings are rather grown than built, and the whole city is built by manipulation of nature. They think that electronic devices put the natural flow of magnetic fields in disarray. All technology they use work with natural energy sources. Technology attached to the body uses the core energy from the Keranid wearing it.
