I rarely ever even see any IMVU adverts. Maybe one in every 4-5 page clicks, in the usual non-intrusive areas where adverts usually are.

Are you using the beta UI? Because I had the same question, where's the sidebar everyone's complaining about, until I checked FA on a computer I wasn't logged into that had the default layout.

I think the sidebar was never put into the beta UI.

The sidebar is on the beta yes, but nether of them has any adverts at all. All adverts are right up at the top of the screen or right down at the bottom.

Thanks man, that's a step forward. It doesn't help for iPhone users though, and I don't like having to troubleshoot and detour to get the site to be at basic functionality, so it's not enough to sway my concern, but I do appreciate the help - thanks!

When I post an image and view it, there's an IMVU ad in the sidebar area to the right of the upload. It's big, super shiny and really distracting, and I browse on my phone so I can't get rid of it

Even if you have ad block, the space to the right is still taken up by the sidebar, so basically I don't know how they can call it "full view" anymore. At this point you might as well view everything by the download button...

I also fear the same thing where most of the fandom will fracture into Weasyl, Inkbunny, Tumblr, and Sofurry. Personally I hope more people go to Weasyl as it's a pretty decent art archive so far and will get better the more people and the more involved people get with it.

Yeah that fracturing thing is something I've thought about too. I don't really know what there is to do about it, but since I didn't trust IMVU a lot before, and then I started seeing clickbait / malware links here, I figured I'm just gonna support a gallery run by actual furries instead of the clickbait propagators of the internet, so I decided I'd move to Weasyl.

I don't think FA is in a position to listen or care any more. IMVU feeds off of scammy third-party advertising. Since IMVU now owns FA, not even Dragoneer can prevent the unpleasant changes.

The best we can do is to build our community on other sites, that are still at least owned by furries. Personally, I have almost all of my stuff also on Inkbunny, and am fully prepared to shift my main activity over to there. I'm also on SoFurry, FetLife and plenty of other sites. Of all of them, Inkbunny has best infrastructure to handle loads of new users.

I'm ready to go, but not actually going unless they permanently mess up the site for me. It seems that users complaining got Dragoneer's attention, and he got IMVU to agree to let him undo the recent changes. I don't mind the tiny furry-themed ads that we've had here for years, because they aren't in the way - and they directly support the furry community. Those IMVU ads are something else though. They were simply too large, and right in the middle of the page content. The worst part is that they aren't even furry related. Dragoneer said that those were placeholders for the third-party google ads, that never got a chance to load into the system - in other words, ads for car insurance, home loans, fake jewelry, gambling, lawyers, scam sweepstakes, Viagra, tires, and all sorts of other crap that no one comes to a furry site for. I just hope they can keep them at the bottom of pages and not mixed in with the content. I'll tolerate it if it stays out of the way, and as long as they actively screen out any malware.

Yeah like, I know they got rid of the ads pretty quick, but to me it feels like IMVU's nature was pretty effectively represented by the quality of ads they considered putting on the site. If they're okay Myspacing us with clickbait and other dirty stuff, I don't to support them. That, and I would really much rather support furries. I always liked the old FA ads because they were totally from community members. They were like, healthy advertisements, not clickbait scam artists looking to take advantage of people.

Just look through IMVU's pages, and you know their nature. They use bad clickbait ads that turn most people away. Eventually, those types of ads will be here, since they said that they bought FA to host their ads on. The best we can hope for is that Dragoneer continues to have enough influence that he can confine such ads to areas that don't interfere with the site, like the bottoms of pages, or that they'll always be easy to block.

It would help a little if their ads were of interest to furries, and not those plastic-faced, furless chat avatars, that many furs describe as scarey or creepy. IMVU buying FA makes about as much sense as it would for eBay to buy PornTube!

I want to help, but I don't really want to be involved with getting people to split even more. I'm, hoping things can be duct taped together, that the people supporting and the owners will find some sense, and hold on until it blows up.
