Thinking about doing commissions... Any tips?
As the title pretty much says, I'm wondering if I should start doing commission work.
The thing is I'm not sure how to handle these things properly, like payment methods, pricing, art categories etc.
Can anybody with experience regarding commissions (either doing them or ordering them) tell me what you thought was a really good way to handle these?

Another easier way however to figure out a price range would be to have a YCH auction. Let the people bid on the slot and based on that you can determine where to set your prices at.
Also make a clear list of what you will and won't do. You don't want to accept a commission only to find out its got something your not comfortable doing. As far as payment, paypal seems to be the first choice for most people it's simple and easy to use.
I hope this helps in any way ^_^
I know a lot of people have refund policies that take into account whether or not you've started a sketch, how many adjustments you're willing to do, if they cost..
It helps to have a variety of stages you're willing to price at, sometimes people only have 10$ but want a sketch or 15 for inks that kind of thing.
Additionally, you can try getting single commissions at a time, and finding out first hand if you're comfortable with the process.
People usually want communication, seeing sketch progress before inks or colors, that kind of thing.
Basically just try not to set yourself up for a situation where there's confusion about what your customer is getting and there won't be a problem.
And sometimes you're just going to come across customers who just seem bent on being unhappy. Don't let them discourage you from trying more.
