Don't think of it as the fandom being geared more towards sex; think of it as just any other fandom. All the fandoms have their adult section, doesn't matter what it is. Star Wars fans, Trekkies, Bronies, Sonic Fantards, Anime, Comic Books, etc. Some fandoms have larger adult sections, as some fandoms have a more art oriented theme than others. Obviously Furries are gonna have more adult artwork than say the MTG fandom, as people who play Magic don't have as much time for art too busy practicing and playing.

All furries are is a group that enjoys making non-human characters or 'fursonas' to represent themselves, usually to interact with each other.

Don't be ashamed of sex, it's a very human aspect and it's something we were meant to enjoy. It's going to invade every aspect of our life, and all of our endeavers, and the Furry Fandom is no exception. Although all things in moderation; of course sex can be bad in a lot of cases, where consent is an issue or minors are involved, but other than that as long as it's the right place right time it can be a good thing :)

I would suggest that not all furries require a so called 'fursona,' many are just people that enjoy aspects of the fandom.

Also, not ashamed of sex, but it has its own place and time is all. I guess Im old fasioned, but I feel that a handshake is a proper greeting, not a murrypurry cuddlehug and a lick to the cheek. Ew.

I draw and write a lot of pr0n (obvious from my gallery). To be honest, I was first drawn to FA by some burd pr0n. I started chatting with furries and then I learned that there was a furry fandom. I'd never heard of it before that. So, yeah, the first thing that drew me in was the sexual aspect, at least as it exists here in FA. For me, this was really important-- not because I masturbate all day but because I had lived for 30 years keeping my sexual orientation (gay) and my fetishes completely buried. I didn't think that there was another person on the planet that shared my kinkiness and I wouldn't allow myself to explore if there were others for fear of being "outed." I'd reached a breaking point in my life and didn't think I could go on so isolated. Anyway, FA was a healthy outlet for that since there were definitely others with the same kinky thoughts about avian characters. I met a lot of good friends that love birds in all aspects, not just kinky ones. If you look at my gallery, you'll see that there are plenty of non-pr0n items too, but they don't get as much attention. When I tried suiting, I loved it. I like being transformed into what I love-- birds. And it's neat to make people smile. Suiting allows me to express more of myself (bird to the core). So, for me, the fandom has a sexual side (reserved for those that want to see it-- not waved around in public), but I also love the networking with other artists, partying with friends from all over, dancing at cons , and admiring the immense creativity of furries. Yes, definitely-- I could sum it up as FRIENDS and CREATIVITY (which, btw, includes, but not limited to, sexual creativity).

For me, a person who is a furry is "someone who likes anthropomorphic animals" - which may or may not include an appreciation for Looney Tunes, Disney, fursuiting, adult work involving furries, conventions.... and the enjoyment or lack thereof of individual parts does not make someone "less furry" than someone who likes X, or Y, or Z. I fell into the furry fandom sort of by default, because I drew a number of things that I was told fit in that box (with and without intending to) - and found some level of kinship with other people in the fandom.

I'm a furry because that's the best label to describe why I hang out in this fandom, even if "Draconic" is a more comfortable one... it's harder to find interactive spaces that are focused on that particular side of things these days. It's a long time since I could spend hours hanging out on IRC #AFD - which was my original online "home."
