Confuzzled 2015 Debriefing
Oh wow, that was seriously fun. Yeah... I'm going to Confuzzled again next year! *laughs* Here's the basics on how my first furry convention went.
Apologies of those I met who I don't have FA accounts for! Sorry!
I was quite nervous at first, I arrived around midday and knew that my room share
sharae wasn't going to arrive until that evening. So I just got myself a drink and sat in the lounge, planning which events I liked the look of. I can handle talking to groups, being in crowds, even being the centre of attention to a point. But how the hell do you make that first contact with strangers who are already part of a close knit group?
*random tail whacks me in the knee* Oh wow, this tail is a lot heavier than I thought it would be!
TuxTiger then introduced me to his other half
wolfool and others including
kasaran and
tatsuaikuchi. We all played a card game where you're a monkey who flings shit at other monkeys... I like this group already... *laughs*
Spent time chatting with everyone including
cookie-dough and a couple of others whose accounts I don't have.
I'd just like to thank
TuxTiger and
wolfool again for not only printing but also laminating a badge AND a door sign for me AND
sharae! You're both amazingly kind to us first timers.
I went to the opening ceremony (a good laugh) and then to the "your first convention" meeting. Do people seriously have to be told to sleep, eat and take showers? *chuckles* The information about how to interact with fursuiters was good though. They really cannot see anything from in there!
I met up with my good friend
sharae from the train station and then introduced her to the group, everyone is just so damn welcoming!
The next day we both went swimming and then there was a bar meet for first timers, supposed to be two hours long, ended up being 30 minutes tops! Played Cthulhu Fluxx with some people we met there including
samammal who is long time fur who (if I remember correctly) has recently come back after a bit of a break from cons.
Other events included:
- Pawpets... oh boy... that was mental and funny in equal measures. Even if you don't like hand puppets, just go and check out a Pewpets show...
- The parade was overwhelming! So many fursuits, it was incredible!
- How to make a top hat was more interesting than I thought it would be... quite a lot of crossover with fursuit making it seems!
- Went to the Dealers Den and saw so many awesome things for sale there. Decided to get a commission from
killveous because she draws dragons and feathers so damn well!
- Retro games was interesting as most of the games that they were showing off I remember playing when they were still new/in arcades... *laughs* I'm an old dragon it seems!
- Played some more games with
samammal in the open boardgame room and a few others we bumped into there. There are some REALLY weird games around!
I'd just like to say that it was amazing just to be able to walk infront of a furry critter, hold your arms out and (more of ten than not) get extra fluffy free hugs... from total strangers... it's an amazing thing that should happen more often. Reminder: Always make sure you're right in front of them (so they can see you) and always hold arms out and wait for them to do the same. Fursuiter interaction 101!
I said my farewells to
sharae on Sunday evening as she had to make her way back home a day earlier than I did. I moped in my hotel room for about 15 minutes before deciding I was being stupid and headed down to the lounge. Soon the "pack" as they call themselves, has found me and we all had plenty of drinks. A lot of drinks.
I think
TuxTiger had a bit too much to drink judging by the state he was in the following morning! *laughs*
We all had breakfast, then headed to the lounge, then went to the pool, then to the library (which has no books, only tables, chairs and food). It was a really cool relaxing last day before I had to head back home.
Others I met (most of them in the pool on Monday actually) include
samohtfoxxtail,
fabifox and
arcais (who was so friendly and fun). There were so many others I met over the days I was there, but I'm bad enough with names and faces as it is... *laughs*
I was sad to leave, as we all are of course, but it was so good. The people I met while I was there really made the whole thing special... thank you all again.
*collapses from social exhaustion*
