It is sad he is going out like this. I just wish him a peaceful and painless passing. He will be missed by many. I hope Steve is taking this well.

I just lost my father-in-law yesterday, and now his family is dealing with the fact that they have to figure out what to do with all his stuff, as he had no written will.

I'm extremely sorry to read the latest news. I had hoped that it would be just a temporary setback, but it keeps worsening and I'm already fearing for him.

I really guess I was choosing not to believe it would come to this from your earlier posts. Doug's art was the first furry pictures I ever saw, and it's part of what got me into the fandom. The saddest part of all this is the semi-obscurity he's ending in, the kids today not realizing without folks like him there wouldn't be a fandom.

If it is your time, go knowing you made so many people happy.

I am very saddened to hear this. I am big fan of his work. Given what I am to infer from what was said, I truly hope for a minimal of suffering, what ever the outcome. If he should pass, I will mourn a good deal; for the furry fandom will have lost one of its earliest and most significant artistic influences.

Sadly it sounds like nearly a lifetime of smoking is taking its toll. Still I continue to hope for the best and hope he can rally once more if only to make his final wishes known.

Maybe I'm speaking for more than I'm entitled to, but if you have the chance please extend the thanks of the fandom to Doug for the art he's contributed and the foundations he's helped to lay.

It sounds like the best that can be done, already has. No pain, and he knows we all care about him. Doesn't make it easy. I wanna see him up and about again. I'm hoping my optimism isn't foolish.

We're loosing the old guard, the pioneers, the ones who made so much of this possible. Those who mapped this wild, furry frontier. It's just...so painful to watch. Thank you for keeping us updated...

It all fades, and the light goes out in the world, and thoughts of the beyond give no comfort to those that remain.

All we can do is hang on from moment to moment. All we can hope is to last long enough to see the ending to the story, the narrative we try to create, or the story we followed for so long.

I think my favorite cartoon of his was Pandora as a Giant, wearing a Pemtex knee short.

I first stumbled upon Doug's art many, many years ago on VCL, then on the old Tribute To Minerva Mink site. Not into herm stuff, but I appreciated the humor he imbued in his works.

It's a heartbreaking thing when someone we care about-- someone we always remember as being strong and vital-- is slipping away, and we can only watch helplessly. I went through that with my mom, and it was the worst time of my life. We will all continue to hope against hope with you, but if the worst should happen, you have my deepest sympathies.
