Sadly, with these ads I have no clue what's going on. They change depending where u live @x@ Personally, I only get adds for fake sunglasses! I can't even begin imagining how much this has ruined the experience of many furries worldwide. Even a new furry that wants to checkout the community will lose interest.

I mean, let's be honest, the furry world does indeed mainly happen for porn, but there's a whole world beneath the surface. It's just that furries are more accepting towards that stuff in general, it's not a thing we live for. I've made more friends in this 'Porn' related fandom than in the real world, where pretty much everyone needs a small reason to just stab u in the back!

And really I think it's even a bit different from the aspect of a clean artist making it on this site.
I mean i never get asked to do porn and people are extremely respectful about sexuality in general. It is literally the very first place I've encountered this mentaility and has helped me get over some really horrid thoughts and grow as a person. Them doing this is literally instigating every negative News fed/youtube video/gross stereotype of furries they could muster and completely devaluing the good that is in this community.


Also I'm somewhat in the same boat. I haven't gotten a single porn ad and typically i keep my SFW filter off. I dont mind the third party ads, but this is something I personally can't tolerate for bother personal and business reasons.

I've seen twitter posts out the wa-zoo and a lot of talk about it. I've heard that there is even rape/bestiality porn ads. I believe it's based off where you live, what kind of ad-blocker you've got( I think mine automatically disregards adult/porn ads) and your browsing history. I just know that I can't take that chance. My mom will occasionally check on my Furaffinity because she's proud of my artwork and I've somewhat curbed her in-general fearof furries. this..completely destroys that safety.

I am sure it will all wash over at one point, but if it doesn't make sure to let us all know were you end up setting up your new camp

The problem I have with the ads is that they link to the porn industry, which I consider to be completely different from erotic art. It's not artistic in any way and solely serves as wank material; it's pretty much the lowest of all media. That's not even touching on the exploitation and other crap going with it.

I want to get a career in art started so I've been posting art here to improve and get experience. I've begun to meet people that seem pretty cool as well. However, if my art is associated with porn, that's just a black mark, a complete nuke on it taking off.

Blocking ads doesn't change the fact that they're being actively supported by FA. Lots of people don't seem to use adblockers either.

My concern is that every time the staff made a fuckup, they've gotten away with it in the past every single time. Their experience says people will put up with it, who's to say it won't happen this time? Given the vast amount of porn in the fandom, are SFW artists being considered "acceptable losses?"

I have a lot of ill feelings towards the porn-industry, but pushing that aside, it's a bad career move to stay if they keep the ads. I've literally just started to move my career outside the community, but my artwork is very much associated with FA and if you type in "tidmatiger" "Tidma" or even my actual name you will get links to this gallery. I cannot trust that the SFW filter will work(as it hasn't from many peoples reports).

Actually, the first time I thought about leaving was because of fetish art (specifically fat/inflation) not being marked and taking up 80% of the front page on SFW. I would definitely not have faith in FA's filters blocking the new ads.

I refused to post any artwork here for about 3 years until I finally caved and was able to make some money and that was about 5 years ago. It's disturbingly sad how already intimidating this site/community can be from an outsiders point of view. This is just going to make things a million times worse.

I find it funny that there was once a time everyone at the top was "so concerned" about the content of user icons that there was mass bans on certain types of icons. One of my own icons was removed and an icon a friend made got removed because it showed some blood. Neither of these things were innocent, but neither passed the PG-13 mark. I was a bit peeved, but if that's the environment FA wanted to create, that's fine. After all, anyone could see those by visiting FA... better safe then sorry I guess, right?

Now any child can visit FA and see nasty and 18+ things on every page.

It's down right disturbing. I've noticed over the past 3-4 years things like Icons and even adverts have gotten racier and racier. I dunno. I had/do genuinely hope that the site will improve..

Move to Weasyl. No ads, and much better filtering system to filter exactly what you don't want to see. And anyway, Weasyl is a thousand times better than FA in pretty much every single regard, it's only "weakness" is not enough people using it.

I actually already have a weasyl account and you're right the only reason I don't use it as often is because there is little to no fan-base there for me. If i leave weasyl will probably become my most used/main site for furry work. i dooooooooo wish they would move out of beta though

Beta or not beta, where does one start or end? You could call FA beta too since it's features were never fully finished. :P Weasyl is in constant development, which is why I think they still call themselves Beta.

Fair enough. i do appreciate weasyl's staff significantly more then I have ever FA's they actually seem to listen and want to be a part of the community. Really and realistically i never fully moved to weasyl because I couldnt make a living there. I mean it took about 5 years to get somewhat popular enough to charge a living wage. I can't really afford to start over, but with that said there is nothing stopping me from being more active on weasyl and less so on here.

If it comes down to it though I'll most likely stop taking furry art commissions unless they are friends over skype period, unless they are at art conventions. I've been moving more into the professional world outside the fandom over the last year anyways. *shrugs* I can stay for the community, cons, etc. but i cant at this point easily take my business elsewhere. I just would rather not have to.

Yeah I totally understand that. Many artists, including big names tried to move over to Weasyl but they are always forced to come back - if they want to get enough sales, that is. It's easier if your livelihood doesn't depend on it.

If you can move into the pro scene, that's a good thing. I was thinking about that as a long term goal to chase... but I don't know, I just like to draw anthro (and horses) more than anything else. :P

it's definitely possibly and in some aspects there is defintiely still demand for anthro-type characters, they just might be more beast-like. But werewolves? yea..they will ALWAYS be a thing.

I still have a long way to go. I only started taking drawing seriously some months ago, and what I do changes rapidly, I need to settle with a few styles first then I can try gathering the confidence to actually offer commissions. :3 ...and need to get a proper tablet because drawing on this Genius feels like going on the Dakar rally with a Smart. :D

gettinga good tablet is definitely a must for any digital artist though xD!the older wacoms are still pretty nice and you can get them fairly cheap on amazon or ebay :)

And this is where I made the biggest mistake of my life: I let several years go by while rarely every drawing. I will probably always be angry at myself because of that. But the past is past... Yeah I agree. But most people are not willing to put all the effort and hard work into it. And even worse, today there are more and more of those who think that you can just call any crap art without ever actually putting effort into it...

Maybe fandom wise. There is a whoooolllle other artistic community that pushes you to your limit and helps you at the same time. It's both extremely intimidating and a wonderful place. Anyone /can/ be an artist. you just have to push yourself...some people aren't good at that xD Just like some people are terrible at self study artist is 60% a mental game with yourself 40% self study xD

Aww thank you <3 everyone here deserves better. I'm still hoping they will back track and remove the ads. I've been no fan of the FA admins. it's the community that has kept me here, but they are making the site shameful to be on and i just...can't afford to deal with it.

It seems like something that would hurt the people here and mostly only benefit the webpage. Artists like you who only do, or atleast mostly do clean art would possibly to the outside viewer be associated with pornography and other adult art. Which I could imagine to be pretty bad for the people that uses FA is their primary place to do artwork related business. And while there are of course alternatives there might not be as much business there.

Personally I use adblock since maybe a year back, but of course not everyone uses that. I just think that adult oriented ad banners only serve to make the page more unsightly and almost embarrasing. I have turned off ad block for this page at the moment just to see if I can see any of these ads. But I will probably sign that petition as I am against them in general.

I've been really trying to cling to this site as it's kinda a "home" in a way. I got started here, made friends here, and was able to make a business here. I love this community, but this is something I just can't ignore/nor can afford to.
I'd be taking a massive cut if i left as I have at most 200 followers on any other site. I'd rather FA change their minds and set things straight versus having to start over again.


Plus this really just adds to the bad stigma that furries already have. Anyone who is against furries can jump on FA now and point a finger at the horrid blatant porn ads and just go "SEE I TOLD YOU THEY ARE ABOUT NOTHING BUT PORN"

Well I will begin to use weasyl as a more common place in general, because I'm starting to realize that things may just get worse from here.

It is really sad. I was really against furries in the begining, fearing the stigma of nothing but porn and being associated with it. Now I'm invested into this community and love my friends and people that I've met here. These ads just renew that old fear and push some really negative stereotypes. I love meeting people here. I love and feel incredibly honored that people actually enjoy my art. Leaving here could/would mean loosing a lot of potential friends and the ability to create a bond with someone by helping their imagination come alive. I would be extremely sad to leave.


Also by sex-positive I mean that this is one of the only places That showed me: sex isn't an evil thing. That there is a very big difference between love, sex, and porn. That just because you are built differently sexually doesn't mean your wrong. You're body is beautiful and you shouldn't be afraid of it. The list just goes on and on. It's been a healthier mindset then what I had and literally has made me a better person in general.

I hafta admit... fetishy stuff kinda appeared first to me and that's what I saw very first about furry anything, but really soon after I started discovering just amazing illustration and imagination stuff, in this culture there's amazing creatures and four trillion other things that are nowhere else, all G rated even. And like you yeah, I discovered really great friends who have become very close. Actually, you know I would have become a catcalling macho dumbass semi-jock if it wasn't for furry culture. I never would have become sensitive to sexual culture issues, to emotional issues. In fact, it was one of the very first furs I ever knew who is one of my most trusted friends, who one day offered to snuggle me up, and taught me that you don't have to feel shaky about yourself or your sexuality or orientation if you're snuggling with someone of the same sex. And more importantly, there is a world of healing touch and comfort and stress relief that the world is missing out on, because society is making people think they have to be macho and tough and not be allowed to get soothing through cuddles and warmth.

...Actually, that's one of the biggest things anyone could point to in saying we're more than just about the sex. o.o

So I've been following Dragoneer's twitter. Apparently there was a mistake from the place that provided the ads. I have not seen one of those ads since, however I did see one for some exotic cigars, I'm guessing that is the kind of ad meant to be.

According to the FA update journal

We've enabled mature third party ads on submissions which contain adult content. These ads will also show up on any page where adult content is visible (such as in a thumbnail). The system was recently updated to detect whether a page has general-rated content or contains adult material, and displays ads accordingly."

Truthfully until dragoneer makes a new update saying they will be removing the adult ads or at least clarifying what type of ads they will be using I cannot trust that they do not mean porn ads. I wouldn't mind cigars/sunglasses/cars/etc. I really don't care about that..that's kind of the nature of having a massive website like this. but porn? That degrades a lot of the furry community..

The bolded statement is actually for the submissions that have adult content, art that has mature scenes and adult situations.

Read it like this: mature ads on Adult themed submissions.

I've got the same opinion. I haven't seen any of those ads because they seemed being blocked by firefox automatical, so it's fine for me. But I don't want others seeing them on my artwork pages. Even if I started doing some adult art in the last time I think it's not comparable with those ads.

I wouldn't blame you at all. And I'm the same way I dont get ANY ads if I look at anything mature or plus (Actually tested it out xD) I just get a big empty space where the ad would go. I just...I'm disappointed more then anything. I mean I'm not very surprised(which is really sad in it's own right) but I've tried hard not to be associated with the adult side of FA..let alone straight up porn :/

You know how you'll be looking through articles on the web, and you see all kinds of ads that relate to you? Like... Say you've just recently looked up space saver bags, then the next website you look at has space saver zip lock bags ads. It isn't coincidence. It's a new type of ad. Probably Google based. They track where you live, and what you search for and put up ads that relate to you. When I listen to my Pandora Radio, the ads that come up are all Wyoming based. Its creepy. I haven't seen any pornography ads on FA yet, but I also haven't looked up pornography. If I had to guess, I'd say those who have seen it have looked that up in the past 30ish days. I bet it's an ad through a search engine.

But... I could be wrong.

I'm not saying it doesn't piss me off knowing our FA is being contaminated with real pornography. Because it does.

I was going to try and test it out, but my anti-virus automatically blocks the ads when they pop up if they are adult in nature. I get the standard ads but I get no ads looking at anything rated mature. All the ads I typically see are about Glasses xD

the thing that gets me with it is where /when do you EVER seen porn advertisements? porn websites. It's the only place, Any other website blocks them. They literally have to allow mature/adult ads to be allowed on their facebook. I'm perfectly fine with 3rd party advertisements...Just not ones in adult nature.

Signed, and you've more or less hit the nail on the head with what my feelings are as far as all of this goes. Yes I have Adblock but that's not the point. Unless a complete reversal of what they just did happens (removal of all of these ads, not just a meager "scaling back") I'll be tapering off my submissions here as well. It's such a shame too because even though I have no trust in the management and the site itself, I've met many great creators and people here and I'm loathe to just up and leave because of it. Also income but that is an entirely different can of worms.

I don't want to see all of these artists and other individuals suddenly disperse and disappear where I won't be able to find them again because whether you like it or not, FA is a hub for this community. It's like okay 3rd party ads for sunglasses, cars, whatever. I can deal with that it's not blatantly obtrusive and yea okay I can see it help funding the site, but porn? Where do they allow porn advertisements?Porn sites. thats its and I can't associate myself with a porn site.

I signed the petition, because a lot of the ads they're showing are capable of infecting computers with attached viruses. I had one ad open a new window and start playing a video while FA was still the main tab. That is SO not okay with me. So much for having FA exempt on my ad-blocker. Not to mention FA doesn't have a mobile version, so the ads take up half the page, and I check on it while on breaks at work. I don't want to see porn adverts, no thank you.

It just screams of IMVU deciding that the fandom is all about sex, potentially undoing the hard work people have put in to make the community's reputation better. Now that the home of the fandom is plastered in adverts for porn, it spits right in their faces.

Also, I'm currently using Weasyl, and though it may be quiet, it's a much nicer site to use than FA, and probably will get busier as more poor decisions drag this site down into the gutter and it's demise. xD

Agreed. I had truthfully hoped that the whole IMVU thing would lead to a better regulated site and that they would for the most part leave FA the way it is or improve it. The 3rd party ads in general never bothered me and I understood why they were needed..but the porn thing just make s it look like they are saying "Hey you guys like Porn and sex and shit and we are going to make money from you QQ FURRIES LOL TITS."

What the shit. Since when did this happen. The ads here got ridiculous awhile back, sometime before the time IMVU took over. It's sad too, because I want to be able to see artists' ads...but I got tired of a few bits of malware showing up via the ads, and they've only gotten worse. There's fewer artist ads and more shitty company/business/corp ads. It's sad how FA's site is looking better (Fucking finally) but the site is already seeming to take a plunge into the dark, company-driven part of the internets.

Then this? What the hell, this is bad. This isn't a porn site; it's a furry community. Sure there's a lot of porn drawings, but it's still not a -porn- site. Thus, this bull shit should not be shown on here...

For anyone interested in a good ad blocker so you don't have to see this bull shit, try out adblocker for Firefox or Chrome. It sadly blocks users' ads, but yeah...

nah i agree. I started noticign that more and more porn-ish racey user based ads where poping up..showing bondage, obvious porn stuff..haha i'm really not that surprised that this happened. It makes me sad more then anything.

I've already got adblocker on chrome (DAMN YOU YOUTUBE ADVERTS)
but firefox and my antivirus automatically blocks the porn-o ads luckily.

Love your art, but this isn't a petition I can sign. I'm not offended by commercial porn. It's been the norm on the internet for well over 20 years so no biggie to me. On top of that this petition calls for the removal of all adult ads which is too broad of a restriction. Though I agree the ads do technically violate the site's own TOS the site IS allowed to violate it's TOS. House rules do not apply to an owner. This is just how it is in the business world. But I do believe adult related ads should NOT appear when people have that SFW option ticked.

The bottom line is we do not pay to use the site. Artists are generating a massive amount of combined revenue that would more than pay for the site but had made it clear a while back that paying FA a fee for selling their services was just not going to jive well, especially when SoFurry and Inkbunny, etc operate entirely for free. But they also do not have the amount of traffic this site does as you know and I think it escapes some people that this site runs in the tens of thousands of dollars a year to operate mostly due to that traffic. Bandwidth is anything but cheap. The domain name, servers, hosting services are all cheap in comparison on a high traffic site.

So... while I think ensuring the SWF option being selected is a better way to go about displaying adult ads at the end of the day this is not our website. Just because the furry community uses it doesn't mean it belongs to it. It could be unplugged today. Everyone will just migrate to another site just like what happened when Furnation and VCL collapsed. On that note, I appreciate you keeping galleries elsewhere too because while I may not share the same political view on porn as you do I do enjoy your artwork nonetheless and it's good to know that if you do end up feeling the need to close up shop here you can be followed elsewhere. For that I thank you.

I totally and 100% respect that.
Really I don't mind the advertisements at all. It's just I can't let a potential client/non-fur friend/family find my page here and see a flashing pron pop up, no matter the risk.
I often leave my SFW filter off mainly because not all mature work is pornographic in nature and because 99% of the folks I do watch dont do porn I know it shouldn't necessarily pop up in my feed. I have a few "mature" filtered art pieces but it's because of blood more then anything else. And tasteful nudity is definitely not adult in nature. The human body is a piece of art in its own right.
I do respect anyone who wants to stay or is comfortable with the porn pop ups. I just know it would be a future financially bad business move.

Out side of the business aspect I wouldn't be able stay for emotional health reasons. Porn is actually a really heavy trigger for me, but I also understand and know that, that is entirely my own problem that I have to deal with and it should never effect someone else views. I wont really comment on how I feel about porn in todays society other then my opinion is extremely negative and hateful towards it. I tried to keep that aspect out of my choice to actually leave the site as much as I can and make the logical choice and not the emotional one.

Also I'd never just up and leave. I owe you guys waayyyy too much to do that. this place started as a financial income and has turned into something that is very close to my heart. it'll be a lot harder to get rid of me then that xD

Really I was glad they started with the 3rd party ads, where they a little annoying? honestly not really, I viewed them as a necessary need to help fund a site that I've grown very fond of(or at least the community that harbors on it) and hoped that that would for the most part be the most of it. Websites like facebook, youtube, anywhere really all has 3rd party website advertising, however., the only site that has porn advertisments is(of my knowledge) a porn website..so if FA starts sporting porn advertisements that means thats what the people running it are viewing it as..and even if the tone it down...I dont like where this path is headed and simply dont want to be associated with it. If this was a hobby, fine sure whatever, but this is my career. If i only ever planned on working in the fandom i wouldn't care as much either, but i want to work for companies like Wizards of the coast, bethesda, etc. Furries dont give two shits about what people in the community sees it's what the people outside of the community see that the problem comes from. This is literally a slap in the face to anyone whose ever stated that the community is not just about pornography and sex.

And though the community doesnt pay the bills per say, if there is no community there is no site. Doesnt matter how popular a store is, if enough people have a bad experience its going to go out of business eventually. Same with FA. Really it's idiotic that IMVU bought this place assumed that porn ads would be a-okay and is litterally pissing off enough people that they could easily loose their investment. xD

You are right though. it's not my website so All I can do is shrug, be a little sad and walk away if it comes to it.

I agree with you 100%. Porn is very disturbing to me, and I don't want to see or be apart of its advertising. Of all the things FA has ever done, this is the only thing I've ever been disgusted by.

I would say FA and the admins have done a looott of disturbing/shameful things and emotionally, porn is a trigger for me and a bad one. But Pushing all the emotional things aside..I can't and won't risk a future client googling my name and them clicking my FA site and suddenly "HOT MILFS NOW. YOU'RE WIFE WILL NEVER KNOW" flashing across my otherwise SFW gallery. Logically is makes no sense to stay to me.
