About macros people ~
I have always been quite fascinated with the amount of macro artwork and writings that is posted here. From quite large but kind dragons, to universe devouring foxes (seen it done) the fetish really offers diversity.
Now, could someone explain the ultimate appeal of it? Im figuring it has to do with the feeling of total domination, even when it reaches quite hilarious levels. Im doing an sorta macro character, but the idea is of him living in an environment which permits such growth. Majority of macros here however couldnt sustain themselves, not to mention survive an direct hit from an nuclear warhead. Am I trying too hard to apply realism here? Yes, I am. An artist who does nothing but draw flying reptiles and post human super soldiers who flip the finger to Superman in terms of badassery.
Buuuuut, since I am awfully bored, I figured this journal would hardly hurt. Im just curious of the appeal and disregard for the obvious david > goliath scene.

Nothing wrong with applying realism though. I'm sure there's a good balance between macro size and sustainability. You can't be a terribly large macro of course, but it's finding that fine line. After all, whales survive eating krill. A metric shit ton of krill, but still krill. So you just have to provide your 'krill' and you're set xD
Im very aware of the fact that most macros would eat an whale as if it was an club sandwhich! There is an border where size becomes hindarence and a diet of humans has an bad habit of turning the macro in question as the one being hunted.
I know right? These reptiles are so flexible in terms of looks and mythology! Im lean towards the comfortable side as well, though malevolent dragons can be interesting and even symphsthetic! It all depends how much the line between black and white is blurred
Also, so many countries and peoples of the past having the same general idea of a creature without even knowing the other existed. COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT.
I for one still cant get enough of them. So much variables... Such a bliss ~
In a macro(or just large sense), I like a lot of factors, but I tend to overthink things and never say what I want to say, but will at least attempt somewhat here.
I like a real(ish) sense of size, and while domination is maybe a mild factor there...I dunno, I like the contrast. That there is big and small alike, and sizes in between. A lot of macro can tend to be of negative, destructive personalities for the kinky sake, but I like seeing a variety of personalities being expressed by someone of a macro size, albeit less a fan of the purely cold killer, malevolent type. The hijinks one large individual can get into with someone a fraction of their size can be interesting. On a world big enough that the huge one can still feel small, adventuring could be really exciting. Plus, there is something to be said of kind but powerful creatures. Even if a macro is one of very few, having them interact with a smaller populace is such an interesting thing. The achievements that could be done with someone like that are pretty mind boggling. Having a heroic giant badass that is still a vulnerable, alive being is an exciting topic. The moral and mental conflicts in a macro's mind are also interesting as well. There is nature to take into account for one to sustain themselves, but the means being explored is a mind-spurring thought. How different ones could treat smaller species, or how the others could/would treat them.
Plus, I like large individuals. Not the smallest dragon, myself. I adore the attraction of big upon small and what different sort of things I would be doing compared to others, and slowly learning of their manners and musings as well.
In the end, it's another plot complexity or personal avenue to explore, and there are many ways to treat it. Your imagination's the limit, there.
I suppose we are in the same wavelength when it comes to this "kink". I enjoy picturing the positives and negatives of size, not to mention how it affects the world view of such individuals.
The kinky side of being generally cruel for the individuals pleasure has always ringed very shallow to me. I dont remember where, but I once read a little story about some huge creatures who didnt pay much heed to those smaller since they couldnt affect their lives in any meaningful way. The same is with metallic dragons in D&D. Most are fascinated by how dynamic humans are, as opposed to the slow and long view of the dragons. This type of balancing act between strenghts and weaknesses is what pleases me. A type of learning. Not to mention I have a soft spot for giant creatures who look upon those lesser than them with interest and even parental care, though I suppose its just an reflection of my reluctance to purposefully hurt even insects IRL.
.
it was....dumb
Now you do get different macros with different personalities, say 'Macroceli' or 'Duncan'. They are more fun and bouncy type of macros whom despite commission/draw artwork of destroying, it is relativel light-hearted. Where as if you were to look at my artwork or stories, it would be more malevolent and gritty/graphic in detail. It comes to whether you enjoy the thought of destroying civilisation or just chilling out.
Everyone has their own preferances and macros tend to have some of the most diverse/ridicoulous stories/characters around. If you tend to look at things with realism then macro won't be so much for you I believe. Then nonetheless, macros are just overall fun and exciting. For me, I enjoyed being sadistic and malevolent as both a part of my characters personality and my own interests. It's not for everyone but it is what I enjoy, now that does not mean I won't be 'caring' towards micros. But ultimately macro just depends on whether you like size, monsters and the sensation of being bigger than life itself.
The freedom part really seems to be the most defining aspect of "macro" though. Who can say no to you when they barely are the size of your teeth? Now I do enjoy a bit more restrictive macro, but mostly only about creatures that look at home like that. An supersized fox makes me giggle, but a big rex like yours is more understandable.
My preference ranges around at this size: http://wpn.wizards.com/sites/wpn/fi....._key_art_5.jpg
Disregard for life is not something I find particularly appealing, but its fine in my books as long as it stays in the realms of fantasy of course. I for one actually admire you for finding an "calling" with writing macro stories, whether they are cruel or not. I think it matches my desire of drawing pics with certain themes and characters.
Well, I don't expect everyone to like or even agree with what I enjoy. It is as you said, as long as it stays fictional/fantasy then it is okay. Like you, I also like that size as well. I like monsters or myself being a realistic size. Occassionaly going to mega just for the giggles it brings. Haha. I think a monster being 150-200ft is nice enough for me. Y'know, like the giant monsters you see in Cloverfield, Godzilla2014 and the like!
It is like you said though in another comment, I also do like showing empathy/care towards some smaller creatures. It's just fun to me. Like you said a "parental" sense of care from a macro to a smalelr being is great too. And thanks a lot, it has taken me years to get better at writing, I still do not consider myself any good. But it is what I enjoy and it is what people seem to like. Haha. God I still remember writing about you and your macro story. Now that was certainly fun too! No one was hurt, you stomped some things! Everyone wins! I do remember gifts particularly like the one I wrote for you sylvio quite fondly, it is something I take a lot of time and care to make sure it is done right. :)
Well reserving such kindness to a select few is quite sweet. Your little gift back then was appreciated, especially how you stayed true to my wishes! Some others could have got carried away... Oh and shush, I still dont consider myself as any really talented artist ~:P
And you're a awesome dragon! I won't lie when I think back then the amount of things I could of imagined you doing! But I wanted you to enjoy it. :) And I was glad you did! Still though, your paws and your soft/sensual macro ways is cute. <3
