RIP Dave Arneson, 1947-2009
General
This past Tuesday, April 7, David Lance Arneson passed away. His family informed friends that his death was peaceful, and that he was "comfortable and with family at the time".
Arneson was co-creator of the Dungeons & Dragons game, and is credited with the invention of the first campaign setting (Blackmoor), and concepts like adventuring in dungeons. The existence of Armor Class in D&D may be directly credited to Arneson's work, and much of the founding "Tolkienesque" elements of the game have their roots in his games. Many gamers consider Arneson to be the primary creator of D&D; he was certainly a vital influence on the game, however much he may have been responsible for. His family describes him as having been concerned with those around him having fun over anything else in his life.
RIP, Dave. You've earned it, and hopefully we can live up to the example you and Gary set.
