Thank you for supporting World Lion Day 2015!
Thank you to all who participated in supporting World Lion Day this 10th August 2015!! All things considered, it was a good turn out with a good number of contributors!
And I’m looking forwards to having even more fun next year! Thank you everyone!
For anyone that missed my previous journal entries, everyone was invited to upload some lion themed work in the name of promoting lions and world lion day. Art, literature, music or just spreading the word via journal and comments!
World Lion Day is about spreading awareness for lions and the problems they face all over the world.
In keeping a hold of our top predators we keep hold of the ecosystem beneath them and all creatures within it.
More Liony bits below!
What are the issues?
Habitat loss – Preventable by habitat management and expanding reserves.
Food loss – Preventable by protection of other species as well as fighting to stop illegal poaching in reserves.
Lion deaths due to domestic livestock conflicts – Preventable by warning locals on where the lions are and how to deal with them without reaching for a gun if they do bump into each other.
Inbreeding – Preventable by increasing and supporting wild lion numbers.
There are many other issues as well, but in terms of preserving lions in the wild this short list represents the key issues.
