I'm not a Brony . . . I'm not a Brony . . .
Even though I just finished watching all of season 1.
God damnit
While I share much in common with a fandom that is devoted to an already pretty niche interest I'd at least like to leave one box under "Furry Cliches" unchecked.
Still, at least I don't have a ponysona . .

Now that's no something I've never quite understood as a furry, the mad popularity My Little Pony has. I've seen a few clips, and to be honest, I find it to be rather dull. Still, if Briny's enjoy it, and non-Brony-but-Furry rats enjoy it, then I don't see any reason to complain
Nah, give me 'Thunderbirds are Go! any day!
But I think the real reason I like it is because it's playful innocence is such a contrast to what the traditional culture is putting out for you (if you're a twenty something male). I mean just take a look at the game industry or Hollywood and you'll see the trend for the past couple of years. Grimdark has been in and It's honestly become pretty stale, at least that's what I think.
Also cheers for Thunderbirds! I love that show, I grew up on it!
Looking back on it it's really kinda a strange concept. A team of Americans save the world by jumping into high tech supersonic aircraft to fly around the world and NOT bomb the everloving fuck out of someone. No wonder they don't broadcast here anymore, kids these days just wouldn't understand . . . :P
As for Thunderbirds, funny how you should mention the fact it's about machines which are secretly hidden away, not to bomb people, but to actually rescue them, because that was practically the idea of the show. The idea was to be the opposite of the communists since, after all, the original series was broadcast during the height of the Cold War.
Also, what the hell do you mean by "kids these days wouldn't understand"?! It's been rebooted this year as 'Thunderbirds Are Go!' this year! It was done to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original show, and is a hybrid of practical effects and CGI animation.
And I, for one, have fallen in love with this reboot! Heck, just look at the trailer!
I'm not inherently opposed to modern reboots but it's often impossible to recapture the spirit of the original. I've suffered through Speed Racer and Robocop and while I'm still going to check out the new Thunderbirds the originals are still going to be nagging at the back of my mind. I know I should judge them on their own merit but when they deliberate resurrect a title from years past comparisons to the original are inevitable. After all the originals are the main reason I'm watching this one
Still if you've got any other series to recommend I'd love to hear them! Over the past couple months I've sorta rediscovered that not all television is shit. I'd especially love to hear about any particularly "furry" series you might know about :)
Also, if you ask me, I think the reboot has MORE spirit than the original. It's faster, it's got stronger action sequences, it's got brilliantly memorable characters, it actually kept me on the edge of my seat most days, and it's got nostalgia references to the original series (and Gerry Anderson universe) around every corner! But that's just what I think, I'd be interested to hear what your opinion of it is/was
As for there 'furry' TV shows, I've got nothing! I actually watch more documentaries and factual TV shows than anything else
but yeah, its a really good show despite the fandom being filled with mass amounts of pedophiles. so far ive had no problem with bronies despite my love for the show so it doesnt take much effort to avoid them as long as you dont lump yourself in with them
If you said that to anyone else about ANY fandom they weren't already involved in they'd back the fuck out so fast it'd make your head spin.
I get what you're saying though, just cause you like it doesn't mean you personally embody the worst aspects of it.
I mean I get the whole "you're only in it if you say so" but I kinda feel labels like "brony" and "furry" are more of a quantitative description of someone rather than a club you're either in or not. Kinda like the way people are called jocks or nerds. It's really just a way for others to describe a common set of interests or traits they observe in someone.
in my personal opinion i kinda see bronies and people who just like the show as different since the majority of those using the label sexualize the characters whereas those who don't use the term tend to stay away from the ones who do. i guess in a sense i see people who call themselves bronies embracing the dark side of the fandom (or are part of it) where the people who dont want to be referred to as one despise it. But that's all in my own speculation, if you or anyone else actually preferred the term brony it wont offend me any so by all means, its up to you lmao
The only reason I resisted the label was because I wanted to avoid all of the negative baggage that it brings. But if I was to be honest I fit the description to a T. I think that's really the only reason anybody who exclusively draws anthro characters and denies the label, to avoid baggage.
I know this phenomenon is present in other fandoms such as anime but I personally find it most frequently in the furry community. Mostly because being a geek in general has some negative connotations but being a furry places you at the BOTTOM of the geek hierarchy which is sorta a double whammy.
This is true because there is a chart about it:
http://brunching.com/images/geekchartbig.gif
and i love anime dont get me wrong, its basically my life, but weaboos.... maybe its more cringy to those who are a part of a fandom but god some of them are SOOOO bad!!!! but of course thats normal for any fandom so its not really a huge surprise lmfaoo
Like I said before, being a furry is tricky because you're near the bottom of the geek totem pole, you're an outcast among outcasts, bummer.
I do take issue with the chart though on a few things, most notably that we're somehow lower than Klingons who have weddings, I call BS on that. It's a close call but I think we edge out ahead, if just barely
Also if you're up for some furry cringe here's this:

Good luck if you can make it to the end of the vid.
