Is being selective good for the community?

That's my question, is being selective about your watches and favorites good for the community? Or bad?
On one wing, I can see that expanding how many favorites you have or people your watching goes to show what you like in a much more thorough way.
On the other wing, only having a select number of watches and or favorites makes keeping current with them all an easier task.
I've seen some fur's message page, and it is always bursting at the seams. Mine is frequently empty. Which is better?
Please, help me with this question with the comments. What do you think?

I don't favorite anything except art for myself because I like having it at a glance in a collection, but have been debating the same thing lately -- so many people favorite my work and it gets exposure out there futher that I feel often that I should be doing the same thing for people and for friends. :) Who knows. :)
